Re: Profanity on this message board

It seems we have some posters, some new and some old, who are feeling they can get around the site policies by using certain acronyms, symbols, etc to get around the site's censor.

I have personally had to edit at least half a dozen posts on the football board in the past couple of days and I've just about had it.

I'm going to start suspending people. Read the posting policies again if you must, but stop trying to circumvent the rules.

Re: Profanity on this message board

Adding to what Staci has said, I think a reminder is in order that this is a family site. We used to joke that you couldn't post anything which would make her eight-year old daughter ask what that meant. We actually have a lot of people using this site who don't want to have to explain to young sons and daughters what abbreviations mean. We may be the last holdout site on the net, but, so be it. Most athletic sites on the net have the aura of a male locker room. People who can't get comfortable without obscenity/profanity, disguised or not, need to seek those sites out and pursue that option...

Most of us love the site because it takes the high road. In so doing, it brings out the humor, the knowledge, the creativity of the posters. Thanks for all you do.

Re: Profanity on this message board

I wouldn't post here if profanity was rampant. Now the Non-Sports board can get interesting, but there is no cussing on there either.

Re: Profanity on this message board

Well I seem to be getting famous for all the WRONG reasons. Sorry about that.

Re: Profanity on this message board

I personally love this site beucase it remains clean and family friendly. There are many, many options for people who can't communicate without using a 4 letter word in every sentence, I for one, like having one site I can go to that I know is different.

And, I think that posts are more informative when people attempt to expres their thoughts rather than simply an expletive.

Thanks again MODs for all the HARD work that you do on the site...you have my deep appreciation for your time and effort.

Roll Tide.

The NS board is as advertised: "Enter at your own risk." The posters get a lot more leeway there, but not in terms of profanity, pornography, etc.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in terms of helping keep TideFans to the standards the site owner has set forth and the advertisers and posters expect.

*bump*

Reminder to both new(ish) members and guests - using symbols in place of letters is not an allowed 'side step' of the rules.

SNASS

Re: Profanity on this message board

I am sorry for my slip on Monday. My brain wasn't thinking clearly and frankly it post was more tame than what I was saying loudly. If I had posted what I was actually saying I would have been banned for life.

Re: Profanity on this message board

:BigA:Thank you for trying to keep it clean. Never mind the kids, I don't want to read a buch of cuss words. With that said, let's not ban Coach Saban. :BigA:

Love this post!

I beg to differ, I couldn't post his presser last week, because he lost his temper and let one slip, but what I couldn't under stand I never did find where it was "bleeped", just cloaked. I hope Ms. Terry gave him what for.

I saw an interview with him once and he said Ms. Terry gets after him big time when he cusses in a presser. Also he said if there is a close up TV shot where you can read his lips, he said he hears about that as well. I think about the wives of some of these coaches like CNS, CGS, CPB and others sometimes and think how strong they have to be. He said when he really messes up in public he tries to slip through the kitchen when he come in without her noticing. How funny is that? CNS trying to slip by Ms. Terry cause he doesn't want to get an ear full.

Coach certainly has a way with the media!

Re: Profanity on this message board

The only thing I could think of when I saw this thread at the top of the football board was 'this week in unnecessary censorship' from the jimmy kimbel show. I'll not post a link ;)

For the record I too appreciate the tamer language of this board, but am not put totally off by crude language so long as it's necessary/makes a necessary point and not overly excessive. For instance I can't stand the flippant way many will put out an acronym such as lmbo(b subbed for a, the a seems to slide here quite a bit) or nm with an f in them... why really is it necessary... comes off as amazingly boorish. Same with roll bleep tide or war bleep eagle, again boorish behavior.

Conversely some times it's necessary to really stress a point by saying, just get the 'heck' over it and move on when trying to refocus someone, etc. Same with movies/tv. If it's a show like Sons of Anarchy it's more authentic to have a certain amount of cursing and violence because of the gritty/tense/terse nature of the show where as I also enjoy the way a lot of older movies were made to 'imply' sex or violence while not showing it; the imagination is a powerful thing!

Re: Profanity on this message board

You can tell its a slow day when this thread keeps popping up.
No, you can tell that people are too lazy to use proper language when this thread has to be stickied to the top of the forum.

Get your acts together, folks. I've had to edit and delete far too much over the past couple of days. I'm handing out infraction points and the suspensions will be forthcoming if it continues.

Don't know if its laziness or just the fact that cussing is so prevalent in everyones everyday life that most people don't even notice it.
