I think that the Iron Bowl will be a lot closer this year than a lot of people think especially since both teams will be breaking in new QBs.
I don't. I think we will hang 50 on the barn, or close to it. Said QB's should be sufficiently broken in by then, especially the one wearing crimson and white.

For me it's too early to call what we might end up at the season's end. We are breaking in a new QB, which is still a question mark. However, I could see us with no losses, or a one loss in the BCS game. Our schedule sets up nicely for that.

My biggest question is whats gonna happen at FL. I just am not sure if they can put enough points on the board. We just need to score early and quick to take the crowd out of the game.

I really hope we're able to blow LSU out. We also seem to play a nail biter against them. For once I'd like to just sit back and enjoy a scoring frenzy against them.

Oklahoma has a good offense but I'm not overly impressed with their defense. They seem to always give up a lot of points. Plus they lost their stud RB Demarco Murray. I would love to face Oklahoma in the title game if we got there. Our overall talent matches up with anyone we play.
Outside of Alabama and Texas A&M, OU is the closest team I follow (family ties). With that being said, I think I can speak with confidence on their behalf.

OU will have a solid D. They always do. Here's the thing about the Big 12...

Outside of OU, A&M, Mizzou, and Texas in the past), Big 12 defenses are terrible. OU can pretty much score at will on most anybody. Their defense is often playing on short rest and against teams like Tech and OSU (whose defenses are terrible every year) who throw 75% of the downs, sometimes scores will get out of hand.

Basically what I'm trying to say is when OU goes up against good balanced teams, their defense gets better.

Don't look too much into Demarco Murray not being on the team anymore. He was hurt most of his career anyway and split time with Brown and Madu most of those years. OU has two backs that are REALLY good who will be SOPHS this year, Roy Finch and Brennen Clay. Both of those guys were arguably the two best backs in the country in the 2009 class.

QB Landry Jones is one of the best QB's in the country without question. BUT, he will have 1-2 "*** passes" every game it seems. Since our defense will be strong, I imagine we would be able to take full advantage of those mistakes that are seemingly inevitable with Landry.

If we played OU in the MNC game, don't be surprised to see a score like 23-20 or 20-17. You give OU a month to plan for anyone, their D will be ready.

You are right, though, our talent will match up with ANYBODY and that's why I pick us to win the title or at least finish the season top 5 if we have a slip up along the way.

We'll all get a good look at OU on September 17th when they travel to Florida State.

That would be nice. I freakin HATE LSU. I'd love to just sit back and watch us destroy them. Probably won't happen since LSU is going to be pretty salty but that is my dream scenario.

No doubt FSU will be the toughest game they play all year, although Okie State could be really good too. Texas has fallen off and I doubt they'll be that good this year. Better than last year btu still not great. FSU is the closest thing OU will see if they end up facing Alabama for the national title. I think Bama is more talented overall than FSU. The thing about OU that scares me is that they run up tempo and Bama has had trouble with that in the past (Utah loss in 2008 and Auburn last year). I think our defense will be able to control it better this year with our speed and depth. Their win over UConn in the bowl last year didn't overly impress me but then again after the way Bama played in their bowl, very few teams looked great. Roy Finch is a good back. I saw him last year and he's a quick guy. I didn't see much of Clay but I know they have good receivers with Ryan Broyles and all those guys. Landry Jones would certainly have an edge on us if we faced him because he has experience. But I would hope if Bama gets to the NC game, we would have had to go through the SEC and played many tough games. The big 12 is watered down now and they face very few big games. Texas, FSU and OSU this year. Texas A&M should be tough too. Outside of that, not much.

What a bunch of D bags. Where do these idiots think they have more talent than we do? This one jackass said "we are family". Those cow pattie rednecks are gonna need alot more than this "family" BS come late Nov.

They lost over 30 players from last year's team. How the hell are they better than Alabama when we return basically everyone and have far more depth than they do ? I hope Saban runs the score up on them and embarasses the hell out of them. No mercy.

I think our D is going too be hard to score on & won't allow many TD's this season..And our Offense will be fine..Our running game will take the heat off our young QB's..And will put up points pounding the ball until our QB grows up with game reps..

Kent State W 41-3
@Penn State W 30-10 North Texas W 45-3
Arkansas W 27-17
@Florida W 20-10
Vanderbilt W 30-3
@Ole Miss W 24-7
Tennessee W 27-6
LSU W 13-10 @Miss. State W 38-9
Georgia So. W 51-3
@Auburn W 17-6

I'd say you're probably right again there too. My thoughts on your predictions:

Kent State W 38-7 You might be TOO generous here
@Penn State W 24-14 I think this will be a one score game, first road game for young QB's
North Texas W 45-10 Blowout city
Arkansas W 28-21 I think we win by atleast 2 TD's
@Florida W 27-20 I'm not sure UF would put up 20 on us
Vanderbilt W 35-14 Vandy always plays us close, I think this year will be no different
@Ole Miss W 31-14 Agree
Tennessee W 31-10 Agree
LSU W 24-20 Another good score IMHO
@Mississippi State W 34-17 Trap game, I'd say 34-27
Georgia Southern W 45-3 See North Texas
@Auburn W 30-13 I'd say 30-20
SEC Championship vs. South Carolina W 27-13 Good pick
BCS National Championship vs. Oklahoma W 31-24 I'd LOVE to see us get revenge on OU in the title game, if we make it I hope we play them regardless
So last season we had 169 points scored against us regular season and this year you pick 162 to be scored against us. Now that doesn't say much about the BAMA defense getting any better does it. I do believe we will be vastly improved. Also I don't believe there will be any let-up on the offensive side of the ball as happened in a few games last year.

Thats better Tideman

14-0 National Champs!!!!!
Kent State W 38-7-Blow Out, this might get bigger than that!

@Penn State W 24-14-I like our odds, but with a new QB making his first meaningful start in a hostile environment I would not be surprised to see 23-20 or something like that. I will project this one as a win but it could be a toss up if Penn State improves in the off season.

North Texas W 45-10-I agree another blowout

Arkansas W 28-21-I'm glad we get Arkansas at home. Their defense could be solid, and Bobby Petrino really is building them into a solid program. We have squeaked by them in twice recently-2007 and 2010. Arky is due for a win over us. Toss Up.

@Florida W 27-20-Florida will have a strong D line, but our O line will be improved from last year. Their offense did not look good in the spring and I don't think all the kinks will be worked out. We could be coming off a huge fight with Arkansas. The Swamp is a hard place to play, and UF is talented. But so are we. Toss Up.

Vanderbilt W 35-14-We should win and will only give up 14 if we let our second and third string defense have ample playing time. Vandy will play us tough but unlike 2006/2007, we are too athletic for them. Win

@Ole Miss W 31-14-Unless Houston Nutt has some magic up his sleeve, this one will only be close for a half. OM may have shown him the door by this point of the wheels have fallen off. Win.

Tennessee W 31-10-Dooley is a possibly going to be a good coach, but we have home field and UT does not have the depth to play with Bama yet. Tyler Bray as a QB looked good at the end of the season in 2010. UT will be dangerous but not good enough. Still a year away from being able to stay on the field with Bama for an entire game, unless they magically transform like Bama did from 2007-2008...Watch out in 2012. Win.

LSU W 24-20-Both teams will be very strong on defense and stout in the trenches. LSU's only real question will be quarterback coming into the season. We have home field, but LSU has won 4 out of the last 5 in BDS. We still have the edge on coaching, and LES probably won't have the luck this year. This game will have MNC implications. Toss up.

@Mississippi State W 34-17-MSU is moving in the right direction, and they are well coached. I still think Bama is deeper than they are, and they can beat us if Bama comes napping, especially since the game is on the road. Win.

Georgia Southern W 45-3-Win

@Auburn W 30-13-This one is at Pat Dye field at Jordan Hare Stadium. Alabama is deeper, more athletic and better coached. Iron Bowls are always closer than should be on paper, I think Bama wins but it will close. Have to almost always project this game as a toss up. Toss Up, but I lean towards a Win.

If we split out toss up games, that puts Bama at 6-2 or 7-1 (if we win 2/3), which may or may not win the west for us....depending how LSU does and if we beat them.

If we do win the West

SECCG vs UGA or USCe....If we face USCe we win due to revenge factor, if UGA, I think we have an edge in coaching and athleticism.

I'm not going to project a bowl game since where we would go depends on too many contingencies that I cannot foresee.

I have to wait to see how the QB and Left Offensive Tackle situations unfold before picking our season.

I will predict this however. I think we will lead or be close to the top in most every defensive statistical category on a national basis.

I'll be very surprised if we give up an average of more than ten points per game.

I also think, because of the inexperience at QB that we'll primarily be a running team as we have been but possibly even more conservative.

It's still not going to shock me if Blake Sims starts the season at QB because he seems to be the Quarterback that will not take un-necessary gambles thus creating turnovers.
Plus he can run like a deer. Again, I'm not PREDICTING that he will be. Just saying I won't be shocked.

sip

We better hope Les Miles coached THE game of his life against us last year. If he is that hot again, LSU has more than enough talent to beat us in Tuscaloosa.

I think you nailed it there. I really feel like LSU will have the most talented team in the SEC for this upcoming year, but how good they are really depends on the development of their quarterbacks.

Alabama has the huge advantage of playing it's two toughest conference opponents - LSU & Arky at home. You have an early road test against a potentially good Penn State. Your most hated rival, Auburn, looks like they're in for a down year and probably won't put up much of a fight. And you have a pair landmine road games in the conference in Florida and Mississippi State.

I can say the exact same statement about Oklahoma by switching out the following teams:
LSU & Arky for A&M & Mizzou
Penn State for Florida State
Auburn for Texas
Florida & Mississippi State for Kansas State & Oklahoma State.

Strange how we often say our programs mirror each other and here's a perfect example.

Where we have the advantage is something I wish we we still had: no conference championship game. I have no doubt if the Big 12 was still intact we'd be in Cowboys Stadium this December against Big Red (again).

Getting to the point: I think Bama goes 11-1 in the regular season, losing to either LSU or Mississippi State, but wins the SEC West from a strength of scheudle tiebreaker. Then you beat Georgia in Atlanta to win the SEC. Your bowl: Sugar Bowl against West Virgina. The Tide rolls, but it's close. A week later in New Orleans, #1 Oklahoma defeats #2 Oregon 42-37 to win the National Championship.
