I think we are all tired of hearing about Saban and LSU, Miles winning with Saban's players, Finnscum, ect.. As an LSU fan (and many of us) are over the fact that Saban went to Bama. Yes, I admit at first, it ....ed me off, then slowly wore off in a few months. Like breaking your arm, it is very painful the first few weeks, then the healing begins, and eventually the cast comes off and you have a brand new arm. Some of our fans can't get over Saban leaving for Miami-Bama and yet I don't blame them. Hate is exhausting to keep with you. Most LSU fan enjoyed Saban at LSU because he brought us back to the spotlight and made us a powerhouse again. And trust me, he will do the same at Bama (that's why we are upset!) Anything was better than Dinardo and Hallman in the 90's.

Throw out all of the BS that has been spinning around this game for the last two weeks (media induced), Saban Bowl, Revenge game, Anger Bowl, ect.. Throw out the rankings, who has more talent, who is a better coach, and it boils down to an old fashion SEC rivalry game.

What can be better than an LSU-Bama game. When I was a kid in New Orleans, my Dad would pop some popcorn (the great Jiffy Pop kind) and we would all sit down and watch the LSU-Bama games in the 70's and 80's. Those were good times!!!

I am excited and looking forward to the game. I lived in Alabama for 7 yearsnow and still can't stand Finnbaum. What a jack-hole.

You make the choice to listen to Finebaum... If you can't stand him, turn it off. It amazes me that the listeners who don't like Finebaum are the best listeners.

When you say "brought us back to the spotlight, again", what does that refer to. I am not trying to be a smart @$$, though it may seem so, I am just wondering when LSU was in the spotlight BEFORE Saban came along. What accolades were there??? This is more a question of mere curiosity than an attack but please, however you interpret it, elaborate on it.

We were pretty bad in the 90's with Dinardo and Hallman. Program was going nowhere until Saban took the helm.

I was thinking the same thing. I believe Saban brought them TOO the spotlight. I cant blame them for wanting to stay in it either!!!

TheRealTigers- Classy post and welcome to the board.

I agree. I am one of the Bama fans that would like to see the animosity between the two schools simmer down. Most of us Bama fans love a good spirited rivalry with Lsu and hopefully the two schools can return to that.
Most BAMA fans are aware our program isn't quite back up to the elite status that Lsu is now, but we are thrilled to have Coach Saban because we know he can get this program back to that level.

Most of us expected some backlash from Lsu fans when Coach Saban decided to come here and understandably so. I think what most didn't expect was the continuation of it, and some of pure mean spiritedness behind it, especially since you guys replaced him with a pretty darn good coach in Miles. I don't think Miles has gotten the respect he deserves, but your team is sitting at #3 in the nation with an opportunity to play for NC and if he/Lsu wins it, I think that respect will be there.

Heres to a great game being played between our two teams this Saturday. If you're traveling to Tuscaloosa for the game, hope you have great time and our fans treat you well.
May the best team win. Roll Tide! :BigA:

This also made Howard Stern famous. People who hated him listened longer than people who liked him. Some a resimply gluttons for punishment. I like his guest. I love listening to Bill Oliver and Gene Stallings when they have their segments. Yesterday, was especially good with Underwood and Trev Alberts. Loved Alberts comment, "If Saban was coaching at LSU they win by three touchdowns. That's how good he is.", and Underwoods stories rocked...a seventy-five year old Coach Bryant throwing a pickpocket face first into a roulette table. Classic.

They did have a national title before it got bad. And they almost had it turned around with the hire of Bo Rein. After he died though it went Charlie Foxtrot for a few decades. (All of my post is a tribute to one of my classmates at Bama who is from Baton Rouge)

Thanks for explaining. I wondered the same exact thing from the post. LSU had a brief time in the limelight many years ago. Saban brought that program INTO the SPOTLIGHT and I give Les kudos, he's been able to keep it there for the past 2-3 years.

I'm just trying to understand why LSU fans are so upset that Saban came to Alabama.

LSU fans are angry at Saban for coming to Alabama because we are division rivals, not because they wanted him back at LSU, right? I guess I'm confused because the reaction of so many LSU fans seems so intense, like they are talking it so personally. Also, I don't remember the same kind of reaction coming from Florida when Spurrier left the Redskins and became coach at South Carolina.

For example (and it hurts to say this but I'm just trying to make a point), if Coach Stallings had gone to coach the Cowboys after winning the National Championship at Alabama, and after a few years, decided to take an open coaching position at Auburn, I wouldn't react with the same venom and hatred that seems to be coming from many LSU fans, provided that Alabama had a good coach at the time Auburn hired Coach Stallings. LSU has a very good coach with Les Miles, and they weren't looking when Alabama hired Coach Saban, so I guess I just don't understand the reaction from LSU fans.

There are two "schools of thought" so speak going around as to why LSU fans are mad. One is he left LSU ("the greatest program that ever was") and then realized he made a mistake and came back to a rival that they finally started having success against in Alabama.

Then there's the "how he handled it" crowd. This crowd didn't necassarily mind that he came back or that he even came to bama. But that he used an ethnic slur in an off color story he told a reporter. He scheduled the announcement of his hiring the same day as LSU's Sugar Bowl appearance against ND, which they took as a slap in the face. Because he said many of those players on the field during the game were recruited by him. They didn't like that too much and took it personal. He "supposedly" was negative recruiting with some LSU recruits trying to sway them to come to Bama. Even though one of the parents subsequently came out (after Scarborough's article that orginally reported this) and said that Scab-borrow got the story wrong. Basically disrespecting LSU at every turn.

But over all i think the "hate" or "dislike" is merited for a bit but nothing to the level that many of the LSU fans have taken it. They've actually have taken the focus off of their team and given Saban (probably exactly what he wants) a platform to keep his name and Bama in the mix without costing him a dime of his $4 million salary. Good business skills if you ask me.

We will never know what Bo Rein would have done at LSU since he never coached a game before his death. Bo's short LSU career ended just weeks after his hire and Jerry Stovall became his successor.

Great perspective! The games back in the 60's weren't bad either.....love to go to Baton Rouge for a game, fans have always been top notch!

For what its worth, LSU had won 6 SEC Championships & 1 National Championship before Saban went there. He added 2 SEC's & 1 Nat'l. Don't forget, when Coach Bryant was at our place LSU had the 2nd best team in the conference more often than not....Charley Mac was a very good coach! They have been pretty salty through the years.....sans 90's.

As I've stated before, I was in Ladd Stadium to see them beat Coach Bryant's first team, on their way to the MNC. We were doing fairly well, took a 3-0 lead after Duff Morrison caught a mid-air Billy Cannon fumble and returned it 45 yds. They came to life in the second half, Cannon having a run, as I remember of 77 yds, and finally won 13-3. As I've also said before, the end zone bleachers collapsed and injured a number of people, but the game continued...
