Plain and simple - you cannot lose late in the year and miss out on the conference championship and still expect to make the playoffs unless significant luck comes your way in the form of other teams losing. We were just lucky that we had that luck come our way in 2011 and I still remember sweating it out waiting on the final BCS standings to see if Okie Lite would jump us based on their win over the Sooners.

I really don't understand Ohio State fans being upset. They played a horrible schedule until the final two weeks. I get that they couldn't necessarily help it that Virginia Tech is way down from the 90s and early 2000s. But the rest of the schedule is horrible.

For the life of me, I don't understand the knock on Alabama's schedule. Our opponents' record is vastly superior to that of any of the other top teams. We played 11 bowl teams! If Ohio State has a beef with any playoff team, it should be Oklahoma, not Alabama.

They were essentially a .500 team this year - they played two real games and split them...

The vast majority get it and are not upset. Do you think that the media has any interest in them? You only hear from the wackos for a reason.

The fact remains that as disappointing as y'all were for most of the year, you're in the championship game if the Michigan punter just falls down. As well as we have played coming down the stretch, we needed a miraculous 4th and 26 to get to Atlanta. Otherwise, some of our fans would have been writing their own letter.

Agreed. I think that it is kinda funny that more Alabama fans don't get this. Despite having one of the best teams in country, Alabama needed a miracle to get in the SECCG/CFP. The fact that you got that miracle 3 weeks ago instead of the last week of the season seems to have dulled it in memories.

Alabama making the playoffs this year, much like 2011 and 2012, took a lot of luck. Same applied to OSU last year. Winning championships requires a bit of luck. Now you have to see what you can turn this into.

You mean not all Bama fans poison trees?

So who would you rather NOT play? Clemson, Mich. State, Oklahoma, or Ohio State?
My answer's easy. The Buckeyes.
Line em up - to be the best you have to beat the best. Somebody made a comment on a post I made a while back (concerning Bama moving to no. 1) - I don't care who Bama plays, the only team that will beat Bama is Bama.

Barn's miracles (seemingly year in and year out but maybe they have run out), Ole Miss td from pass that bounces off a Bama player's head....I could list a lot of "miracles" for other teams just over the last few years. They happen, and when you're the benefactor it definitely boosts your chances of success. But every successful team has them.

Oh I get it. My problem is this. If we get left out, we've got a legit gripe because we actually played teams with a pulse throughout the year. We still wouldn't necessarily have deserved it because we didn't win our division and haven't just stood out above a bunch of other teams like we did in 2011.

Ohio State literally played a 2 game schedule, as crimsonaudio said. And on top of that, they looked pretty average against that weak schedule.

If you get left out this year because Ole Miss wins that game you have no gripe, IMO. You know the parameters going into the season. Win your conference or you are not going to make the CFP. It is that simple. Being a member of the toughest conference doesn't buy you a mulligan.

Any argument that you might have would be with the SEC and the way that the SEC chooses divisional representatives for the SECCG, not the playoff committee.

That's essentially what I'm saying. As I said, "we still wouldn't necessarily have deserved it..."

Also, the parameters are NOT that you must win your conference. It's supposed to be the 4 best teams, right?

Not any more.
So, it's changed? I was under the impression that conference championships would be factor in tie-breaking, but not a requirement. Otherwise, Notre Dame? In fact, I could have sworn that when the committee ran simulations before last season, and did a mock ranking of the 2011 season, Alabama was included.

They inserted a qualifier that reads
The criteria to be provided to the selection committee must be aligned with the ideals of the commissioners, presidents, athletic directors and coaches to honor regular season success while at the same time providing enough flexibility and discretion to select a non-champion or independent under circumstances where that particular non-champion or independent is unequivocally one of the four best teams in the country.
Now, tell me, when are you going to get a group of 12 people to agree that any team is "unequivocally" better than another team? Would this committee have agreed that Alabama was "unequivocally" better than Ole Miss, if they beat Florida in the SECCG? How about Stanford? I don't think so.

Alabama fans would think so (and I think so), but the committee would have put in Stanford over Alabama, IMO.

No, I doubt so. But I do believe they would have in 2011.

Not if there was someone from the state of Oklahoma on the committee.

Even worse, we would have been held out by a team who had more loses than us, and lost to Memphis.
