Like many of you, my fellow Alabama fans, I was tired of listening to the national television announcers, but I couldn’t deal with the delay when listening to the play-by-play on the radio while watching the game at home. Believe it or not, I figured out a simple seven-step process for overcoming this annoyance, and I figured I’d pass it along to make your lives a little easier. Consider it an early Christmas (and, hopefully, National Championship) present. All you need is a stereo that will pick up the radio broadcast and a computer located nearby with speakers to play the audio. Here’s what to do:

- Download this freeware program: http://www.daansystems.com/freestuff/Radiodelay.exe.
- Install the program on your computer.
- Buy a 3.5 mm male-to-male stereo headphone cable like the one seen here: Amazon.com: 6 Foot 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Cable Male / Male Free Shipping: Electronics. (Radio Shack sells one for around $8 if you don’t want to wait for the product to ship.)
- Plug the cable into the headphone jack of your stereo and the microphone jack on your computer.
- Turn on your stereo and make sure it’s tuned to the Alabama game.
- Open the Radio Delay program and use the default Input Device source (there is usually only one).
- Click Play in the Radio Delay program and adjust the “Delay in seconds” slider until it’s matched up with the television broadcast. You can adjust the volume on your radio and it will make it louder or softer through your computer. It has a little delay before it takes effect, so be patient.
