Another Coaching Apology (Curt Cignetti)

First off this is not a fire CKD hire CCC post. I am happy with our coach and believe he will turn things around from where the season ended. However I have been overtly critical of Cignetti mainly due to his “Google me I win” statements and partly due to a huge Big Ten bias created from Rose Bowl days when Alabama was blocked from participation due to Bowl being reassigned to PAC 12 v Big Ten champ. This effectively blocked our ability to play for national titles in some years and was seen as a slur toward all Southern schools.

However I took Curt’s advice and googled him. You can’t tell his story without his dad’s story as well. It is a heart warming story. I got beyond his cocky exterior and listened to a man who was shaped by his father’s prowess and his training at CNS feet. He has been very successful at any stop and I have come to conclusion I like him. I am sure that will make his day😂… My allegiance has always been with the Crimson Tide since 1968 and w I’ll always be, however my second favorite will be Curt Cignetti teams not for winning record but the way they compete.

I've got no real problem with "I win. Google me." It is self-confident, but, as is said, "It ain't bragging if you can do it." Coach Cig has backed it up with a vengeance. They made Alabama quit and then they assaulted Oregon and "when I say assaulted, I mean assaulted!"
Not sure how long this will last, but Indiana fans ought to enjoy this while they can. This Hoosier team has earned it. One more game to go.
Next year, once other programs start enticing away assistants and players, we'll see if Coach Cignetti can sustain the success. I won't be pulling against him. I hope he can sustain this level of success, but it is going to be a challenge.

The DC was on food stamps several years ago when he was with Cignetti at IUP...he is now on $3M a year! I think he has loyal assistants so unless its stupid $$ they will stay I think

Yeah, I heard that. You're probably right, but I do not think it will be money that draws away assistants. It will be career progression and the desire to be a head coach himself. Coach Cignetti would be among the last to begrudge his assistant that, given Cignetti's story.

Cig was smart and has tied up his key assistants for the next three years . They said last night they all got big extensions and massive pay raises. He's got his key staff members in place for the next three years.

I think he's done a great job.

But do we really think UM and TOSU are just going to bow down to upstart IU???

Nobody is talking about how IU will be "marked" on every other B1G's schedule.

Just another thing IU will have to deal with.

No offense to him or those that love him, the best thing about spicoli is that he has created a blueprint for success in the transfer portal. It involves tremendous research and effort into finding undervalued players across the college football spectrum and coaching them up. That is a lesson that I hope our program is taking note of because we simply cannot afford the arms race that has become college football.

Listening to that lets me know he COMPLETELY understands how to keep an organization focused and on track. He absolutely nailed that explanation.

CKD is going to be CKD. I don’t know how he is in practice so I can’t speculate on his persona other than what I see on tv.

He ain’t gonna be Nick Saban or Cig. All these posts gushing over IU is sort of embarrassing to me! At no point will you ever here me say that I want to be like IU.

Thank you. Frankly, it's sickening. Way below the bluest of bluebloods to be jealous over a new blood and to act like they will take over football.

I'm so hoping Miami can figure out a way to beat them. They probably won't, but, when IU starts dominating the B1G year after year and wins 2 or more NC titles, we can start talking about him/them in staying terms. As of now, what he's doing is simply a flash in the pan.

If Alabama football was a Fortune 100 Company and I was a stockholder, I’m “holding”. I’m not selling but the current CEO (DeBoer) and the leadership team (Grubb, Wommack et al) certainly aren’t giving me a bunch of reasons “to load up on more” over the past two years.

Indiana? I see them like the new tech startup. No past history of success so don’t spend money you can’t afford to lose.

They will be successful, but, I don’t think he can sustain the same level of success. The biggest key this year is that Mendoza caught fire and someone posted the average age of the team is like 23 or 24. That’s crazy. NFL aged men playing against college kids. If you don’t think that makes a difference, basically this same team last year got pushed around by Notre Dame in the playoffs. A year later and another year older and they are doing the pushing around. Further evidence that age is a factor in a good way? The only reason BYU is competitive every year is because they always have an older team.

Who do you like better, Kurtis Rourke with a torn ACL or Josh Hoover?. Because last season, Cignetti made the college football playoffs with the lowest payroll in the Big Ten and Kurtis Rourke, who played the whole season with a torn ACL, as his quarterback.

You have to be an IU fan. Nobody here probably knows about any of those people. Or even cares.
