That is what matters "field position", if we were in better field position, maybe, just maybe, the offensive playcalling would have been different.

I think we tried to get to cute in the playcalling, instead of playing the pure smashmouth football that got us there, we should have gotten the playmakers the ball in space, give LSwho credit, they got the victory, even though I think we served it to them on the silver platter. We shoulda, coulda won this game, just disappointed.
Look... I understand the argument everyone is making, but didn't Foster hit from 46??? If he makes from ONE yard farther when win in regulation. It's not that big of a deal. After each miss, we drove back into their territory. Missed assignments, poor blocking, bad decisions from a hesitant QB are all factors, but whose to say if we get the ball at the 50 and drive to the 35... which was where we drove to on 5 different occasions... we still wouldn't have stalled. WHAT IF HE MAKES ONE OF THOSE KICKS???

Questioning a coach just goes with the territory. If I have a bad day at work, very bad things happen to other people. The same with most of us. These guys are getting crazy money to win a football game. Regulation and one overtime and only six points?!? The best recruiting classes for several years and only six points?!? Bama was the better team last night but the Maze reverse and his pass were killers at times when points could have been easily made.

To the OP, you clearly didn't watch the same game I did. Our normal game was working and then we would try to get cute with trying to run to the edge, or a reverse or a stupid wildcat pass. LSU couldn't stop Trent and the coaches didn't believe in him for some reason.

I don't think it was bad coaching, but that playcalling at times left me scratching my head. We pounded the ball with TR to get down the field, and then we try a trick play with Maze. Sure if it would have worked, we would all be singing their praises, but it didn't work and when a field goal would have won the game, I don't see how you call that play.

Why did we deviate from what got us in this position? That was the worst game they have played all season IMO, and that is not the game to get "cute". Sure our players didn't excute (the receiver that was wide open on the left side of the field when AJ threw the fade in the endzone comes to mind). Very, very suspect playcalling and the players not executing like they are capable of did us in.

As you stated, they were 50+yd FGs. Foster was only like 1-3 coming into the game and how many did you expect him to make? They did nothing with their "momentum", it was 3-3 at halftime.
I don't expect him to make any of them from 50+.....so I wouldn't expect us to attempt them.

It IS that big a deal to give that kind of field position. After the first miss, (and maybe he boots 90 yarders in practice) I don't know why you don't say "okay, I don't why you're hopping before you kick the ball, so we're not trying that again. Let's try to pin it down inside the 5 with a punt, intsead."

We had one bad coaching call in the game IMO, but I think it was inconsequential to the outcome of the game. That was when we attempted the 50 ydr fg and missed. We SHOULD have pooch punted, but either way we didn't come away with any points. Hypothetically, by pinning the tigers deep we might have forced a turnover that may have led to a potential score, but to me that's really splitting hairs and with us having so many other scoring opportunities it really was not a deciding factor in the game.

I've read several post tonight bashing coaching and play calling, are you FREAKING kidding me!!!!!!!!!!

How soon we forget!!!!!! Five years ago we would have been greatful to had a shot at OT with LSU, all you arm chair coaches need to step back and take a breath and think before you type!!!!!

Execution or lack of is what beat us, not Coaches!
We had plenty chances to win.... we lost! It hurts! Going to hurt for a while, but bashing CNS and staff is not gona change the outcome of the game! I'm proud of our coaches and players! Win with class! Lose with class!

We are ALABAMA!!!!!! ACT LIKE CHAMPIONS!!!!!

I do agree..How-ever you would think in common sense if miss more than once...You would punt the ball so put LSU in further depth of the field...
I am not saying coaching was bad..I am saying he made a bad choice of FG over & over & over knowing as it seems he the FG kicker can not kick that far.

I assume Saban will learn from this punt the ball give our "D" the chance to make plays. We have top "DEFENSE" point blank period. We showed that last nite.
We lost but I am proud how our "Defense" played. LSU never scored a TD could never run the ball on us or throw on us. Enough said RTR!

Re: Anyone thinks "bad coaching" got us beat tonight, please step away from the keybo

We simply got beat by a better team. LSU took advantage of their opportunities. We did not. LSU's players executed during key opportunities. Ours did not. Blaming our coaches or any specific player is flat out stupid. The coaches prepared the players well and gave them opportunities to be successful and they were not. Having said that, I am VERY PROUD of the effort and pride with which our players played. I understand they are not going to be perfect in executing every opportunity they are given. I wish they were perfect, but they are not. They are human. I am very proud of them and our coaches and hope this game will make us a better team in the future.
No way I could have said it Better! Roll Tide!

Even when plays are put into the players hands, you can't totally take coaching out of the equation. One of the biggest responsibilities of coaches, IMO, is to consistently put your players in situations they can suceed... and try to eliminate situations they are doomed to fail in. An example of that last year was why GMac rarely threw deep balls... his arm strength didn't lend itself well to those plays. Thus... if there was a game where the coaching staff continually called deep passings plays, that would've been an example of poor coaching... same on the flip side if they called intermediate passing plays.

Yesterday, several guys were put in questionable situations. Whether it's Foster or Shelley on the long FG's, a WR throwing against arguably the best secondary in the nation, Maze trotting out on the field as a PR, or continuing having your QB float passes into the deep flats... you can't simply say "players make plays."

My biggest critique of CJM, however, is the fact that on a drive when we really started gashing the Tigers with our power run game, we make a call that has very little upside and horrendous downside. Somehow or another, CJM has forgotten what we did versus USC two years ago when he put Mark Ingram in the wildcat formation and said "we are going to continue to jam it down your throat until you stop us." Yesterday, we did too much of stopping ourselves... and a lot of that came from the coaching staff.

BTW, I have experience coaching... and one of the critical ideas to making improvement in your team is to impartially review this responsibility. I have no doubt that all these things will be covered by a thorough coach like Nick Saban.

Coach even said in his pressor, "its on me". During the game I question the same things that have beeen mentioned, Coaches made mistakes as did the players. Coach said the same thing, its called a team and as fans we can voice our concerns as long we show class in doing so..."CLASS" is not a 4 letter word.

No one, except the man above is beyond questioning. To believe otherwise is ridiculous. CNS made decisions during the game and some of them didn't work out. Some of them went against logic, so those can and will be questioned.

I can't even understand anyone who would refuse to question a coaches decisions. He is a man, he puts his britches on one leg at a time. He's a great coach, but that doesn't mean we can't discuss or question his decisions.

Re: Anyone thinks "bad coaching" got us beat tonight, please step away from the keybo

ITs a bid difference in questioning play calling, and coach bashing, coming on here and saying that coaching got us beat is absurd! I questioned and scratched my head over a few calls last night also, but what good comes out of doing it in a public forum?
Remember players, and possibly recruits read these forums, and from our own experience with a family member of CK's last year they do pay attention to whats being said by the fans.
Proud of our team and coaches, this could turn out to be only a speed bump in the road, we will see what kind of leadership and fight this teams has starting this week.
Time to take care of the bulldogs, get back on track and play Alabama Football!
