Apparently he's a Bama fan and a good OC and I didn't like the way he was treated at Texas.
Apparently you are not up as much on Applewhite as you need to be. The man is not simply a Bama fan. He would have died to come to Bama, but a coach named DuBose did not think him worthy enough, so he went to Texas instead.

I met him at a party in T-Town after a game. I think it was 2001. Don't remember anything about him other than he was wearing a long black trench coat.

i would love to see major at alabama. his youth would align him with the players, and his love for the tide would bring the best out of him. i dont want to see co off coordinators though. i remember the dubose era with stubbs, and calloway. what a disaster. they fussed all the time.

this young man can coach. the records he set at rice are great. rice is the vanderbilt of the sec. it is hard to believe what he accomplished in such a short time at rice. loads of yardage on the ground, in the air. rice has always been the doormat of the big 12.

There are always more players out there that get away and succeed at other schools, than Bama has schollies to give.

Applewhite, Ronnie Brown, Cadillac, the list goes on and on.

Saban likes to hire young coaches so he can scream and holler and belittle them and get away with it.While I believe Saban is a very good coach, he has some serious anger management problems as you fans will soon discover. If some of you can attend closed practice get ready for the F-bombs.At LSU he knew who he could bully around but there was a few as in one who he dare not "get down" with. Napoleonic complex(short man) is a good way to discribe it.The truth be known,I have no problems with Alabama. You guys did what you had to do. Isn't it funny that Saban and Tubberville have the same agent, Jimmy Sexton. No buy out clause? Mal Moore asleep at the wheel. Stay tuned there is more to come.

I am pretty sure that Fran tried to recriut Cadillac. He was one of the top RBs in the country. If he wanted to come to Bama, there would have been a scholly for him. I don't know about Brown though.

How soon we forget . . . Cadillac was considered close to an Alabama lock throughout his high school career until the Big Bad Wolf of NCAA probation blew down our house. Brodie almost went elsewhere. Cadillac did.

DuBose, as I recall, also put all his eggs in Croyle's basket. He stopped recruiting qbs to make sure Brodie felt loved. That may have played a role is how he viewed Applewhite.

And you're right, Fran went after Williams with everything he had. Of course, Tubby took his entire coaching staff on his visit.

I think that's wrong, Croyle was at the tail end of the Dubose error and Fran actually signed him. Dubose put all of his eggs in the Watts basket.

Actually, Rice used to be the doormat of the WAC, not the Big XII ... which makes it worse in my opinion. They are in C-USA now.

I know Major personally and he is a great man with an exceptional mind for coaching. Someone said above that this could be an investment in the future. Wholeheartedly agree. Major does love 'Bama. In some respects, this would be a dream come true for him.

As a 'Bama fan myself, as well as a Texas alumnus, I will be very happy if this happens. College football at a whole needs traditional programs like Alabama do always do well. I think Major can definitely help in that regard. Whether or not at some point he comes back to coach at Texas is irrelevent. Merely seeing our men successful anywhere is satisfying enough. Well, I take that back ... anywhere except Oklahoma.

I remember reading a story one of the boards years ago about Applewhite and his dad sitting all alone at a recruiting weekend dinner while Dubose and the rest of the staff were gushing all over Watts at another table. Just another lowlight of the Dubose era. Nothing at all against Watt's but Applewhite IMO was one of those special players that don't come along all too often

How's this for inside info. Major Applewhite's Brother is my next door neighbor. I guess I'll walk next door tonite and ask him for a little insight.
By the way, Major Loves BAMA. He wanted to come here but couldn't get an offer. He was named after Major Olgivie. His brother saw my basement and said My brother is a big BAMA fan too. I said really who's your brother. That's when I found out his brother was Major.

i would welcome him to t-town. it would make for a real bitter-sweet ending. his age concerns me a bit-- how would the players react to someone as close to there age telling them what to do (but i guess saban wouldn't put up with anything less). i say bring him on!
