Ah, I'm not going to condone the kid, but I can honestly say I did the exact same thing he did when I was his age.

Either way, he didn't do anything that bad, and I doubt he gets much (if any) punishment. Notwithstanding the fact that what he did wasn't that bad, Petrino and company need him too bad to give him a long suspension.

If you look at the Hogs' 2009 schedule, though, they have Missouri State and a bye during the first two weeks, so I'm sure Petrino will get the wrist-slap in during that time. Regardless of what happens, it will all be ancient history by the time Arkansas starts its "real" season when they host UGA in week three.

College kid gets drunk and acts stupid in public. That's got to be a first.

The world has certainly changed in the last 30 years since I was in school. That which was a minor thing back in the seventies is now national news. Not that there's anything right with that kind of behavior.

Personally I don't think it's a big deal. He was not behind the wheel and it does not sound like there was any type of altercation. He's just being a stupid college kid. I don't condone his actions. He's just doing what most college kids do at some point.

Let him get him up at 5:00 a.m. every morning for three or four weeks, run stadiums and do some meaningful community service.

Unless something happened that's not in this story, I would not look for him to miss any game action especially considering this took place in March.

Oh geez. It's just PI. Who didn't get drunk in college? I can honestly say if this is all that happens to him, so what. I personally don't think this should cause any kid to get suspended.

Maybe he should get an award. Bring him up in front of the team and thank him for not doing anything really bad.

No. Regardless of whether we've all done it, it is illegal for a reason and cannot be condoned. He should get some suspension and extra work. For the good of the team (and his own good) a message needs to be sent.

I agree.

Don't get me wrong I was no saint and I was arrested for underage drinking when I was 18 but I also learned a lot from my mistakes and because I made them I would never want my kids to make those same mistakes. And the same goes for Mallet.

We can't laugh it off as no big deal because this kid has the world at his fingertips and with continued poor decisions he could end up like Jimmy Johns or Mike Vick. Yes it is a big jump now but it always starts somewhere.

Bottom line we can't pick a choose which laws we want to follow. Speed, run red lights, drink and get stupid, marijuana, cocaine, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, murder, any body could attempt to justify these crimes, lawyers do it all the time. But it must be handled quickly and sternly. I am not saying they even need to suspend him from a game but he needs to be punished with some extra physical training and maybe a trip to talk to families of alcoholics and how it has ruined there lives. IMHO.

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often with Arkansas football players. I've been to Dickson Street many times, both during football season and after, and the police are always high strung. Usually you find more mellow policemen out working the college scene. I was amazed how they acted. I've visited eleven of the twelve SEC schools and never seen any quite like that.

Give me a break. Do you speed? Have you rolled through a stop sign or not come to a complete stop when making a right turn at a red light? Have you driven without your seat belt on or crossed a street when the sign clearly did not give you the right away?

My point is simple. Kids go to college...kids drink. If all he got was a PI for staggering down the road to his apartment or where ever he was going, then so be it. At least he wasn't behind the wheel of a car or fighting, raping, doing drugs, etc.

Make him run the stadium a few times and puke his guts out like any good coach would do.

I agree 100% on the punishment. I don't think he should miss one down. Although I did for underage drinking when I was in high school. Missed a whole game to be exact. But I don't think he should. I just don't think this should be treated like nothing by the coaching staff. Make sure he understands the decisions he makes and the impact on his life and the team. It is not serious but it shouldn't be swept under the rug like nothing. Period. It's not our right to decide what laws we want to obey. RTR.:BigA:

You are hereby awarded a break.

As to your question, yes, I probably have done all those things at one time or another. So, what does that have to do with anything?

I agree that many college kids drink. Yes, he got himself arrested. If he is guilty I think he should sit for a game. He'd survive it just fine, and he'd get the idea that the coach doesn't condone such behavior and so would the other players. Staggering down the road drunk is a good way to get run over.

If he'd had gotten behind the wheel or raped somebody, I would suggest that he get a stiffer punishment.
