The US Army in Europe in December 1944 had two airborne divisions: the 82nd Airborne and the 101st Airborne (the 17th Airborne was in Britain getting ready). The 82nd was the elder and thus the "senior" airborne division. The 101st is no longer an airborne unit, but is heliborne, and today is called the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
It probably chaps the hide of the current 82nd Airborne that the 101st gets so much more attention than the 82nd. As General Ridgway said in
A Bridge Too Far: "They're good men, the 82nd, but keep your hand on your wallet."
