As expected, Clowney picks USCe

Nation's top DE will visit FSU on January 28
Today Clowney also learned that his main recruiter at Clemson, defensive ends coach Chris Rumph, is leaving to take the same job at Alabama.

It’s widely known that Clowney and Rumph had a close relationship. Will Rumph’s departure affect his scheduled visit to Clemson?

“Oh man, I just heard about that. I can’t believe it. That was the reason I wanted to go to Clemson. I’m not going to take that visit anymore.”

Clowney won’t take any visits the weekend of January 7th, instead he’ll be in New York for a media event. On January 14th he’ll likely visit Alabama. On the 21st it will be LSU, followed by Florida State on the 28th. He visited South Carolina in November.

I hope Rumph has enough time by Jan 14th to get a good plan together with CNS and just blow JC away with the possiblities that he could obtain with the good guys. Has he recruited any of the other big recruits coming in on the 14th before coming to UA?
 
Everything I'm hearing in Columbia from local recruiting experts is still the same - this is a 2-horse race with USC having a slight lead, but Bama being a legit contender. Kid does not seem to be playing Bama (i.e. Tebow), he is truly considering both schools. Rumph was a nice hire for Bama with or without Clowney, but it definitely improved Bama's position with the kid. The long awaited commits from the Dixons certainly helps USC's position.

If I were betting I'd bet on USC, but it would not surprise me in the least to see Bama land Clowney. Saban supposedly made a very good impression.
 
USC is backcounting 5 or 6 recruits. They have also already asked a couple of commits to greyshirt. Furthermore, a few recruits will be placed, but not signed. I believe the Dixons are among those not signing. They will sign 32 or 33 players total.

South Carolina lost one of it's EEs. Brandon Golson is not qualified by South Carolina admissions for the spring semester. He is, however, qualified, by the NCAA, and will take visits to Miami and Louisville. USC is not trying to hold onto to him because of the numbers. He only played a year and a half of hs football, and was rated a four star by ESPN.

I have not seen anything to make me think that JC is coming to UA, but the USC boards are fun to watch right now. They seem to be in a little bit of a panic. One was concerned that when Sylve scored that TD JC went to congradulate him with a high 5 and another posted he heard on a Charlotte radion station a caller call in and say that JC's mom got a job or looking for one in TTown. You got to love this time of year.
 
No real reason to think Clowney is coming to UA. He'll look long and hard at 'Bama and end up at South Carolina in a close one, most likely.

No sweat, though. Dickson is a great prospect, we'll be strong enough to make half the SoCar fan base have a nervous breakdown, and we'll keep our name in the running to the very end for the nation's top recruit. Really a win-win for 'Bama.

You are more than likely correct. He's made it clear in the interviews that family is a priority and his mother clearly wants him close to home. So I think he is USCe's to lose. If we somehow or another get him, it will be a major coup. I think I might cry if we get him. JK..:)
 
A month or so ago, I was pretty convinced that Clowney would end up at SC. Here lately there are a whole lot of good indicators that Bama is right in the thick of it for him. He is coming to Tuscaloosa for an official visit on Jan. 14th and I look forward to following his recruitment the rest of the way to NSD on Feb. 2nd.

For the record I am not basing any of my opinions on anything said in article below. That is just one writers opinions, but it is has an interesting take on Clowney and Bama's chances with him since Coach Rumph has been hired.

He claims Alabama is definitely a major, major player for his services and that the hiring of Rumph has taken his affection for the Crimson Tide to another level.

Does this make Clowney to Tuscaloosa a slam dunk?

Well, Clowney will also visit South Carolina, LSU, and perhaps decide to trek down to Florida, Florida State, or Auburn for his fifth and final visit.

While signing Clowney would be absolutely HUGE, I highly doubt that he ends up in T-Town. I think the pull of staying home(mama's wishes) will be just too much. Kudos to CNS and the staff for making this one competitive though. I wouldn't get my hopes up and I, for one, am ecstatic about the class that we have now. RTR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were in the thick of it before but Rumph has taken this to a another level.
 
I saw a FSU fan post on facebook that Clowney is going to end up in Tallahassee. I didn't reply as I didn't want to ruin his day. haha. I think we may land him, but signing with USCe would not surprise me. Just depends on if he wants to play for championships AND big NFL money or just NFL money. And, mama, of course.
 
JC before the bowl game said he would take all is visits and one was to FSU and when FSU beat USC since then they think JC will come there now. They right now are more clueless then Auburn. Sorry one game will not affect JC. Sorry tell all FSU fans they need to worry about winning the ACC first before they really matter in CFB.
 
There's been some leaks on some forums that Lateek Townsend has told a few people that Clowney is picking Bama. Lateek and JC are friends and LT was considering USCe but went to Clemson and the rumor is he went there b/c he knew that JC is going to Bama and not USCe. Take it for what it's worth, just a rumor. I don't usually put to much into my friend is going to this college so i'm going but sometimes that can influence your pick. It seemed like a big one for Dee Hart. Since Lateek wasn't high on Bama's boards he picked Clemson instead of USCe. Rumors Rumors Rumors
