As expected, Clowney picks USCe

If you get him in for an UOV you want him to see the fan base in work so probably a basketball game. UA basketball games in the next weekends are 1/29 vs LSU and 2/12 vs Ole Miss. I don't see us getting him back to Bama for a UOV due to school and cost but the LSU game would make the most sense but I believe that's the weekend he's taking an OV. We'll see but I'm not sure we have to have him take an UOV to still get his signature due to the coach's visits and calls
 
Feeling a little bit better about the visit. BTW his parents were with him.

DE Jadeveon Clowney of South Pointe made an unofficial visit to USC for the Kentucky basketball game Saturday night. He made the visit with his mother and father. He did not stay over night in Columbia and returned to his home in Rock Hill afterwards.

Another source said Friday night Clowney was going back and forth in his mind between USC and Alabama.

I'd be shocked if that happened. He never took an UOV to 'Bama during football season when we could dangle free tickets in his face, so why show up the last weekend of January when nothing is going on a mere two weeks after your OV?

Agreed. The chances of him returning on an UOV are virtually nil IMO. Our chances of actually signing him aren't much better IMO either.
 
I wouldn't say our chances of Clowney taking an UOV being slim to nil only b/c he legitimentally seems to be taking this process as a business decision and not just a which college am I going to decision. When you make a business decision you do everything you can to make sure your decision is the right one. What if he takes his OV to LSU and leaves early? We're halfway between Rock Hill and LSU. Not saying that will happen but it would give him a chance to be in our general area again. I think our chance of a UOV is about 25% which considering the recruit and the distance that's pretty good. I posted earlier about the basketball games we have from now until his bday that he could take an UOV. There's also one on NSD when we host Miss State. Doubt he would come for that b/c showing up at Bama during NSD would make most people think something is happening and not sure if you can take an UOV during the weekdays. There are some opportunities for him to visit during these next few weeks though
 
There's no reason for him to come back for an UOV. He was literally just here. The only reason he took an UOV to USCe is because it's so close by.

This visit was a giant success in my mind.


If Clowney does in deed take an UOV to Bama, he'll have to drive there and that 7.5 hour trip in the car might hurt your chances more than help it.

The drive will be worth it, believe me. ;)

haha, no problem.

here is a video of spurrier at half time and some of the members of the team who were recognized. i like that he put an emphasis on the home town of Gilmore when announcing him and also named the towns in South Carolina that Lattimore, Jeffery, Taylor, Gilmore were all from.

The best part of the video is the dig at Clemson though, we haven't gotten to see a lot of swagger from Spurrier at USC

Also, if he does take the OV to Clemson I think that will help our chances somewhat. I would prefer that he takes the UOV that weekend to see our fan base at the LSU vs UA basketball game but if he goes to Clemson you gotta believe that Clemson doesn't think they have a great shot at him right. But who is their rival? USCe. They would do everything they could to convince JC that USCe isn't a good fit for him. I don't think that's a great use of a OV and maybe JC would see through that and possibly leave early but I can't see any other reason Dabo wants JC to visit other than to drag USCe's name in the mud.

I'm just giving my honest opinion. I agree to an extent that he took the UOV to Carolina because of proximity but I also believe there was a little more to it than that. The fact that we're so far away almost certainly means an UOV is out of the question for us IMO, which is why I said what I said. I believe the OV he took to Bama certainly enhanced our chances of signing him, but ultimately I don't believe it was enough to overcome the distance from home which seems to be the overriding factor in his decision making process. Thus why I say our chances of signing him aren't very good.
