That is true. We have met our needs. And he'll be a stud no matter where he goes. But it would be those two or three players.......maybe those that Dickie V calls PTP'ers that put you over the top.

JC would be an instant star at Bama for sure but OTOH the same goes wherever he decides to attend college.

It would be so sweet if he selects the Tide but thankfully we're in the position where one or two recruits won't make or break our 2011 class.

The difference between him going to Bama and South Carolina is that odds are, he'd never win anything at South Carolina. He can count on routinely going 7-5, 8-4, maybe 9-3 every year there. His odds at winning a NC there are about as good as him one day becoming the Dalai Lama.

I hope we get JC but I doubt it. His friend coming along for the ride speaks volumes to me. He is babysitting JC for usc and also acting as a crutch to keep him firm with them. I really want this guy. He is the real deal. Crowell is uga but more because of the pressure he is feeling form the home state folks. They are just bombarding him with the whole be true to your state thing. Here's hoping for a good weekend. RTR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets hope they point out the fact to him that we open the 2012 season in Dallas stadium vs. Michigan whereas the Gamecocks open up 2012 vs. East Carolina. If he wants to play on the " big " stage I really hope he weighs his options and sees that the " Tide " is where its at! ROLL TIDE!!

with lot's of recruits it's not only about winning. proximity to home, relationship with coaches all play a part. The guy is a future ATM machine. I honestly dont think comparing SCE to Bama from a win's standpoint the next few years will have any influence on his outcome

Anyone ever thought that Clowney may have brought his friend Shell on the visit so he could show him what it is that he just can't pass up? It's one thing to have to explain to friends and family back home why it was best to attend Alabama, but if those friends and family got to see it with their own eyes..... Just a little positive spin on the situation.

I'm sure the relationship thing enters into it but I don't buy for a second playing for a perrenial "also ran" doesn't enter into it.

I haven't read much of this thread yet but I think JClowney wants to come to UA. This weekend is as much about selling Momma Clowney on UA as it is JC- maybe even more.

Clowney headlines recruiting weekend | TideSports.com
The weather in Tuscaloosa picked an ideal time to warm up as the University of Alabama prepares for its first major football recruiting weekend.

Some of the nation’s top prospects are expected to be on campus this weekend, but none may be bigger than defensive end Jadeveon Clowney from Rock Hill, S.C. Clowney, the No. 1 player in the country as ranked by Rivals.com, will arrive at UA Friday for his visit, and his head coach Bobby Carroll knows how important each visit is.

“If I were a kid that was going to possibly spend four or five years there, I think it’d be pretty important to visit and to spend some time there to see what the people are like and what the community is like,” Carroll said.

Nearly every major program across the board has recruited Clowney, but the consensus seems to be that his decision will come down to Alabama and South Carolina.

I don't understand all of the back and forth about Shell coming to visit as well. In the beginning (when Saban created the earth), Shell was very interested in us and there were reports that his uncle, Art Shell, preferred us. This was all before he made the inevitable (sp?) decision to stay close to home. Not only that, but ALL reports have stated that Shell is a very shy kid so I seriously doubt that if you were to send a spy, you'd send someone that doesn't speak up all that often and at one point had solid interest in Bama. JMO.

Nicely said VegasTide. Just b/c he's a verbal with USCe doesn't mean that he could have interest in Bama and the fact that Clowney wants him to come sounds like JC is recruiting for Bama which usually means good things for Bama
