We'll be staying at the Fairfield Inn at Douglasville (near Six Flags). Government rate for $70 a night. Planning on getting up Sunday and going to the Zoo, then making the 4 hour trip back home Sunday night.

I checked all the downtown hotels about a week ago and all were full!

Staying at the New Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Downtown across from the Georgia Aquarium.

Been a few years since I have been to Atlanta. I know the Dome is in the area. Anyone know if it is within reasonable walking distance to the Dome? And safe?

That is less than a mile walk. Just walk through Centennial Olympic Park and turn right at CNN Center. I might not feel too comfortable walking it late at night, but with the crowd around after the game should be no problem.

That area has gone through some great improvements in the past 2-3 years. Tons of new restaurants and attractions (Aquarium and World of Coke are GREAT and MUST SEE items, especially the Aquarium). My wife and I go down to that area for dinner all the time and never feel unsafe. You may run into a pan handler or two but that would be about it - and the Atlanta PD does a pretty good job of clearing out the area before big events like the game.

The one caution is that the restaurants in the area will be PACKED before the game so go early or don't go.

Omni Hotel is at the GA Dome across the street. Not a bad place to stay. Holiday Inn is cheaper and only a few blocks away. If you want to blow some money and get lots of amenities, then the Westin Peachtree Plaza.

I've stayed at all three and all three have a bed.

Im getting in 1pm on gameday and staying at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Airport. Should I be afraid to use MARTA either before or after the game? Should I cab it instead. I dont mind paying extra to keep from getting stabbed. But considering I just had a drive by directly in front of my place in baltimore, perhaps i shouldnt worry.

I plan on checking in then getting properly hydrated. Where should I go after checking in to the hotel. I have some friends at a hotel in Buckhead, should I just hit up those bars then head back down for the game or should I hit up some places right beside the dome? Thanks for advice and help.

You won't get stabbed. Take the shuttle from the hotel to the Airport MARTA and hop on. You will have to transfer trains at the Five Points station to go over to W1 Georgia Dome. It drops you off right at the epicenter. Atlanta is bad, but not stabbed on MARTA bad. I ride it almost 3 X a week and never have problems. Just watch out for this girl- I would give the link but don't know the rules for posting stuff that has cursing in it. Go to Youtube and search the crazy MARTA girl- you will know what I am talking about.
