The Marriott is already sold out downtown. I got a room for Saturday night at The Ellis on Peachtree. Has any one ever stayed here? Says it's a 1.5 miles from the Dome. Any other Bama fans staying here?

Re: Atlanta hotels

With many rooms being booked, you'd think it's already finalized. I'd get your rooms this morning before they officially announce this game

Re: Atlanta hotels

Take $50 out of an ATM. Stand outside the Georgia Dome. Hold up 2 fingers. That's how you can go about getting tickets. Seriously though, just like the FSU game in Jacksonville, tickets will be plentiful outside the stadium.

I don't know about that. This is the opening game of the season and it is a very easy trip for both sides. I think this will be a much tougher ticket than FSU was.

Re: Atlanta hotels

Good point Stephen. Just don't buy into the hype too early and buy tickets from a broker site for an outrageous price. If you can't buy through Alabama, wait until game day and you'll be able to find reasonable priced tickets outside the GA Dome.

Re: Atlanta hotels

yes, don't ever buy months before the game from a broker or ebay...will pay WAY to much...will do much better outside the stadium or the week before the game on ebay...

How would I go about getting tickets for this game?

Ditto?

I love this match-up as an opening game. I know its alot tougher than the fluffs we've been playing in recent years, but I love it. Great exposure for both schools. Would love to go.:BigA:

That is DragonCon weekend in downtown Atlanta.
http://www.dragoncon.org/

I work at a major downtown hotel and this convention takes up all of Hyatt (host hotel), Marriott and Hilton. Your best bet for downtown is Westin or Omni or some of the smaller ones. Everything will be compressed, though, so prepare for high rates unless you book right away. I look for them to start rising as as soon as this is announced. I'd also suggest staying in midtown or buckhead...you MAY get better rates there, rather than downtown.

Also, prepare yourself for the sites you will see - DragonCon is CRAZY...thousands people dressed in all kinds of fantasy/comics costumes - there's a big parade down peachtree and all. It's definitely a site to see.

Here's a taste of things you'll see:

That explains the full hotels.

Yeah, Dragoncon is worth seeing once. ONCE.

BTW you don't have to pay to get in to see all the freaks with their sticks. They will be crawling all over the place.

I doubt you will find anyone who has. This place is kind of brand spanking new (I walk by it every day on my way to work). I’m told that the old Ellis was the site of the largest hotel fire in North America, it was given historical landmark status, and thus just stood there as a burned out building for many years. They only started the renovations on the place about a year ago and it reopened about four or five months ago.

Since I walk by it so often, I can tell you that I rarely see anyone staying there. Also, from what I can tell from watching the renovations, the rooms appear to be pretty small. However, since the place just recently re-opened, everything in the rooms should be pretty much brand new. If you want more info about the area, just let me know.

By the way, regarding hotels in the area, I would try and avoid the Sheraton. I’ve heard nothing but bad things about that place.

Re: Atlanta hotels

dragon con is a complete freak show (in a good way). i always get a kick riding the train home on friday evening of the DC weekend. the costumes are great (and there are more than a few warrior princesses that make their way to town)

btw, i didn't realize their were gender specific stormtrooper costumes until i saw that picture. talk about a wonder bra ;)

Yes, that is the storm troopers outside SunTrust Plaza in downtown Atlanta. I worked in that building for twenty years. We used to love to wander around on our lunch hour during DragonCon and laugh at all the nerds and their wild costumes. It started out pretty innocently with mostly Star Trek costumes in the early years. Lately, though, it's gotten pretty wild, especially some of the stuff the women wear. It's definitely not a family atmosphere.

I think I'll just ride MARTA downtown right before the game and see if I can score a few tickets from the scalpers.
