Re: Atlanta hotels

Thanks RollTideRandy! How far is the walk from the hotel to the Dome? And is it safe? How about walking to bars?

Hotels about a 10-12 minute walk from the dome. Quite safe especially with the game time traffic.

There's probably 20-30 (at least) restaurants/bars within a 10 minute walk as well. Safety won't be an issue at all unless you're turning down a side alley at 4am. But I wouldn't advise that anywhere.

Here's a good place that lists a lot of the restaurants in the downtown area. The event will be over by the game but still gives you an idea.

And some more info....

The Ellis is brand new, the rooms are a bit on the small side (think NYC hotel vs Las Vegas) but are very nicely appointed. I wouldn't try and put 4 adults in there but 2 adults would be perfect.

I’m a big fat dude, so the walk probably takes me closer to 20-30 minutes. There is a Marta station literally right across the street from the Ellis, about 10 steps away from the front door of your Hotel. If you wanted to take Marta to the dome, it would cost you $2.25, you would go one stop south, transfer, then one stop west for the GA Dome. Since you have to transfer, it would probably take you longer than just walking, plus there is a little bit of a walk from the Ga Dome Marta Station to the Dome. I’m pretty lazy though so I’d probably ride the train.

There are a good many restaurants and such on Peachtree, but every time I’ve been downtown on a Saturday I get frustrated because it seems a lot of things are closed because downtown is DEAD on the weekends (maybe not with Dragon Con). Being as close as you are to the train station tough, you should have a pretty easy time getting around.

If this keeps up, I might just rent out my house, got 5 bedrooms, I'm about 45 minutes from the dome, but you can play on one of the nicest golf courses in atlanta!(the Frog)

Re: Atlanta hotels

Unfortunately, there won't be tickets outside of the Dome. Due to scalping laws, you'll need to buy tickets 3 blocks away from the stadium.

And if you need a room, stay around Perimeter Mall and just take Marta to the game.

Take $50 out of an ATM. Stand outside the Georgia Dome. Hold up 2 fingers. That's how you can go about getting tickets. Seriously though, just like the FSU game in Jacksonville, tickets will be plentiful outside the stadium.

There is a new Hilton Garden opening March 25 on Baker street. It is walking distance to the Georgia Dome. I booked a room there last night on www.hilton.com.

The Hilton downtown is blocked on their website, so it is either sold out or blocked for local booking.

Maybe things will be different for a football game, but it has never been a problem for the SEC Basketball Tournament at the Georgia Dome.

I've always been able to buy them in the parking deck right by the bridge to the Dome for Falcons, SEC Champ and SEC Basketball Tourney.

For those of you that wanted to take in a Braves game, you might want to check out the Georgia Tech opener earlier in the day. It is against Jax St so nothing great there, but it is Paul Johnson's first year and Bobby Dodd Stadium is one of the historic football venues in the country.

GT is very easy to get to from MARTA and is in between midtown and the Dome.

Not sure if you meant to confuse the Braves with GT Football, but the Braves will be in Washington that weekend.

It appears to be about the ONLY thing not happening in ATL that weekend.

I think you misunderstood my post. Several in this thread were disappointed that the Braves were going to be out of town on that weekend. I was pointing out the GT game as a possible replacement.

OK, let's have a Bama pep :pDT_ura1: rally at Bobby Dodd Stadium and then :driving: over to the Dome for some football.

Re: Atlanta hotels

That is DragonCon weekend in downtown Atlanta.
http://www.dragoncon.org/

I work at a major downtown hotel and this convention takes up all of Hyatt (host hotel), Marriott and Hilton. Your best bet for downtown is Westin or Omni or some of the smaller ones. Everything will be compressed, though, so prepare for high rates unless you book right away. I look for them to start rising as as soon as this is announced. I'd also suggest staying in midtown or buckhead...you MAY get better rates there, rather than downtown.

Also, prepare yourself for the sites you will see - DragonCon is CRAZY...thousands people dressed in all kinds of fantasy/comics costumes - there's a big parade down peachtree and all. It's definitely a site to see.

Here's a taste of things you'll see:

Thanks for the photos. Hopefully, someone will post photos on their site of rabid BAMA and equally rabid Clempson fans. Just so they don't get in the wrong parade and have a warning of what they are going to be up against. Bet we bring more cars with flags!
