I enjoyed the story the other day and it certainly does ring true with just how pathetic the aubs are. I thought of something when I first read the thread title, but I didn't want to post it right away for fear of detracting from the story itself. However, a few days have passed, so...here goes.
When I first saw the thread title, I envisioned the old pulltabs aka "pop-tops" from aluminum cans. Don't know exactly how long ago they went away and were replaced with the type of cans we have now. However, it blew my mind a few years ago when a friend was singing Buffett's "Margaritaville" and sang "stepped on a pop tart." They didn't understand how stepping on a poptart could have cut his foot. I told them the words were "pop-top." Then I had to explain what a "pop-top" was. Anyway, sorry to ramble; however, in my opinion the pop-top or pull-ring from an old beer or soda can is the closest thing to a legitimate national championship ring that the barners will ever have.

If one uses the same "logic", then Auburn has no NC's and neither would we:
- The BCS is now the defacto awarding entity for MNCs.
- While still recognized by the majority of the media (of course they are going to support their own poll because that's just how self-serving they are), the AP poll is practically relegated to second tier status by the BCS, who organizes and implements the national championship game.
- One of the awarding entities (Billingsley) of some of those 20's and 30's NCs is still around and is now a part of the BCS.
- If one feels that an award from an entity is nullified, retroactively, by the accedence of a competing entity at a later time, then the only conclusion is that all UPI and AP awarded MNCs are void with the creation of the BCS.
That is funny, you should have taken a picture of it. I wish that I had been there, I would have taken my sidekick 3 out and made some silly excuse to distract the guy and then snap it.
I thought about taking a picture but I was on an airplane and all I had with me was my camera phone. I have tried to Google a picture of the ring but evidently the owners are either too embarrassed to take a picture and post it online or they are pretty scarce.

Thats just plain sad. I hate that Auburn didn't get to play USC in 04, that way they would know they weren't the national champions, now they are all like aging female movie stars, unable to come to grips with the reality of their life
