I always thought we should go after some lower weight class sumo's to play on the o and d line. Not just for size but for hand technique. A guy whos martial art is exclusively slapping, hand fighting and leverage could translate well. Im not being ironic either I'd kind of like to see it happen.
The Cowboys looked into it I believe. There's a stamina issue, they are not trained for the rigors of a full football game but rather short bursts..

The AFL ball and the Wilson/Nike American football are different, no doubt. How the Aussie rules players kick it is generally different as the torpedo punt that American Football uses is not the primary kicking style, but just one weapon in the arsenal. However, watch the AFL guys and their foot skills, and they can pick it up quickly.

As for the willingness, it is there. The academic road isn't always easy to convert HS credits, which is a battle sometimes, but paying a couple of $G for a flight isn't a factor if the opportunity came up.
