Michelle Rodriguez really broadened her horizons in this flick. For the first time in her career she played a tough-as-nails, rebellious, sarcastic, military jock. A bull lesbian? Not so fast, my friends. She still retained her femine side by wearing shirts that enhanced her breasts. A truly groundbreaking role and performance. ;)
She sure could fly that gunship thingy! :)

I inferred as much just from the previews. Let me guess, the guys (or at least one of em) who are disguised as blue people fall in love with the blue people and their peaceful way of life, turn on their own troops, and fight with the other blue people to get rid of the evil capitalists (by using their own intimate knowledge of the capitalist planes and stuff).
Wrong. There were no capitalists in this movie. Capitalism relies on mutually beneficial exchange.

The corporation in Avatar was engaged in theft.

exactly....

I know it's just a movie, but if the humans don't have a product or service that is of value to the natives, then they can move to the next planet.

According to moral, biblical and constitutional law, it is wrong to take through force what is not yours to begin with.

Ironic that you'd have quotes from a Justice in your signature yet roll your eyes at the law.

Well to be fair, those quotes have nothing to do with the law. ;)

What I meant by 'exactly' is, this movie plays out the mumbo jumbo stereotype that corporations are evil entities that steal lollipops from and tread all over the innocents who live in the bliss and harmony of nature. As though corporations are the driving force of evil in the world. Great Satan and whatnot. :)

BTW, did the thieving corporate devils use any cool racial slurs? Blue butts, gumbies, anything? I watched Gran Torino last night, and have been calling my brother a gook all day, I need something else to throw at him. ;)

I go to the theater to be entertained and this one delivered.
Agreed. Couldn't have been happier with what I was watching. I felt like I was discovering and exploring a new planet for the first time. Worth the $10 it cost.
Well, you two must be a couple of simpletons. That's like buying a book and eating the pages. Film is....so much more. Just watch the Oscars and you will realize just how important movies and stuff really are. Entertainment? Pfft.

You mean movies are supposed to teach us about life and stuff? :conf3:

Understood. Remember the part where the main character states something to the effect of "all we have to offer them are jeans and pepsi"? That's the typical left-wing view of capitalism.

He may be an irredeemable socialist in other aspects, but I'm not going to blame Cameron for making a villain of an organization that steals.

i saw avatar over the weekend. it is exactly as others have described it. it was still worth the money just for the visuals. blue nipples are typically something i dont associate with sexuality however this one was different. on a related subject- do any of you think the blue humanoids ever interlock their tail thingies?
I also admit finding the blue thingies attractive, but I don't plan on putting much thought around whether the humanoids had interlocking tails. ;)

Sorry, but you need to leave your bias at the door if you want to enjoy movies...

Ok.....

I enjoy movies plenty, all I said was I'm not interested in seeing this one, the storyline just doesn't "do it" for me. I peeked in on my way to Invictus last week, and I saw a scene straight from Fern Gully. Big yellow machines cuttin down the forest and blue people crying. Wasn't interested. :)

I usually ignore CGI-laden movies, especially the cutesy Pixar ones, and I'm always suspicious of Cameron since Titanic.

Though, since I've read all the right-wing MSM's  pearl-clutching recently about it, I guess I will see what it's all about.

I find too much CGI tough to take as well, the sole exception being star wars.

Losers:

"Ever since I went to see 'Avatar' I have been depressed. Watching the wonderful world of Pandora and all the Na'vi made me want to be one of them. I can't stop thinking about all the things that happened in the film and all of the tears and shivers I got from it," Mike posted. "I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do it I will be rebirthed in a world similar to Pandora and the everything is the same as in 'Avatar.' "

.....

"When I woke up this morning after watching Avatar for the first time yesterday, the world seemed ... gray. It was like my whole life, everything I've done and worked for, lost its meaning," Hill wrote on the forum. "It just seems so ... meaningless. I still don't really see any reason to keep ... doing things at all. I live in a dying world."

i can only say the world would be better off if that person acted on his urges.

These people need to put down the 3D glasses and get out more:

"After discussing on the forums for a while now, my depression is beginning to fade away. Having taken a part in many discussions concerning all this has really, really helped me," Hill said. "Before, I had lost the reason to keep on living -- but now it feels like these feelings are gradually being replaced with others."

Quentzel said creating relationships with others is one of the keys to human happiness, and that even if those connections are occurring online they are better than nothing.

"Obviously there is community building in these forums," Quentzel said. "It may be technologically different from other community building, but it serves the same purpose."
