Back from the game -- 15 things I liked about last night

1. Having a full house on a weekend when there is a panic-induced gas shortage and, frankly, a yawner opponent. To bring 92K out is impressive. CNS even mentioned this in his post-game radio interview.

2. Every kickoff landed inside the 5 yard line. Coverage on the kicks was very good.

3. Controlling the line of scrimmage like against CU.

4. Putting an inferior opponent away early and keeping them there.

5. Loved it when Maze bobbled and dropped a pass across the middle and we ran the exact same play on the next down, which was a completion for a first down in the red zone.

6. My 9 year old kept asking me where Cody was. That guy is just scary.

7. The crowd was very into the game. There was a little "sitting on hands" but I thought the enthusiasm from the stands was great.

8. Zero punts.

9. Neither Leigh Tiffen nor Javier Arenas seem to be showing any sign that they were injured last week.

10. Speaking of Arenas, it is just my imagination, or is he turning into a pretty good CB?

11. Mark Ingram runs with authority. He had a great game and still wasn't our #1 back in terms of yardage.

12. Ten (10) different players caught passes during the game.

13. JPW's play was solid if a bit inconsistent. He is still not seeing open players downfield, and he is still overthrowing long balls. We will need to address this before SEC play ramps up.

14. Lots of pressure on the opposing QB.

15. The Process seems to be continuing on or maybe even a little ahead of schedule.

Good points, but #2 is not correct. A couple of kicks were at about the 10-15 yard line and one was returned to the 47, if I remember correctly.

I do recall one decent return by them, but the short kickoffs must have been while I was in the rest room with my son, because I remember being very pleased with the kickoffs.

The kickoffs in general very good. There were only a couple of shorter ones, but the height was good.

#8 had his jersey held on the long return by WKU, but it still would have been a long return.

Things I've noticed so far:

Ingram and Coffee have the same number of carries, but Coffee has a higher YPC while Ingram has 3 TDs.

Nick Walker is a not-so-distant second leading receiver to Julio Jones (10 receptions, 107 yards, 2 TDs v. 11 receptions, 96 yards, 2 TDs). Pre-season talk about the TE was cheap, this is legit production from that position for the first time in a long while.

15 different players have received a pass, 5 backs (excluding the QBs) have rushed the ball. Coach Mac is spreading the ball around and this diversity will make it hard for teams to game plan for us down the road.

67 players played meaning that any freshmen that may contribute in someway got invaluable play time.

Wilson is completing 62.5% of his passes so far. If he can maintain this percentage, I think our offense will be fairly efficient in SEC play. It's all up to his young receivers growing up by the meat of the SEC schedule.

I had only one complaint about last night's performance. I would have liked to have seen us take the QB down more than once. However, he was running for his life. I know they sprinted Wolke out on just about every play, and that had a lot to do with keeping him off his back.

Remember the RB from Northern Illinois who ran all over us? Mark Ingram reminds me of him. He looks like a rock rolling through the defense. One second you think they have him, but he just keeps rolling through and over them.:):BigA:

Not a whole lot of blitz pkgs last night or the prior two games. If we can get a push from the front 3 on Arky, I don't think we will see many this game either. I do expect to see more in the next game though.

Mark Ingram looks like the real deal. This guy is one of the best looking young running backs I have seen in a long time and I have been watching college football for many many years.:BigA:
