Why not just kick her out of the class?

Bernstein wrote in an email to The Red & Black that the head of the psychology department said he could not enforce a mask policy upon his students. UGA follows the policies of the University System of Georgia, which only encourages masks inside campus facilities and does not allow its institutions to enact mask or vaccine mandates.

The now-resigned professor said USG is in compliance with the policies of the state of Georgia which “forbids us from requiring masks.”

“I am sorry that the pandemic has caused so much dissension. I personally do not agree that stimulating the economy is more important than people’s lives and am disappointed that some people feel that it is,” Bernstein said.

Guess times have changed more than I realized - back when I was in college the professor could kick you out of class for any reason whatsoever, and the student had little recourse.
This is probably still true for just about anything - other than masks.

Board member Karin Rajnicek said the free program made it easy for families to "become spoiled." Darren Clark, assistant superintendent for business services, said he feared there would be a "slow addiction" to the service.

Pediatricians are advocates for children and protectors of their health. As such, we are now asking that children be put first. Preserve their in-person education by mandating vaccines for all who are eligible and wearing masks in schools. Give them the ability to be protected by the highly safe and effective Covid-19 vaccines. We join the American Academy of Pediatrics in calling for rapid emergency use authorization of the vaccines for children ages 5 to 11, followed by younger children, with the same urgency that was given for adults.

It’s time to stand up for children, who have been pushed aside since the response to the pandemic began. Pediatricians, parents, educators, lawmakers, and others need to protect kids’ education — and their lives — by giving them immunity and protection that will prevent disease.

It is the children of this pandemic that we will rely on to bring us the next lifesaving innovations, perhaps the ones that will prevent pandemics like Covid-19 in the first place.

The issue here is not forcing everyone to mask as an accommodation. The issue is not allowing local officials to respond to local conditions in order to provide a safe learning environment for all kids, and especially disabled/vulnerable children. It also is about the deliberate exclusion of disabled children and the schools' responsibility to provide FAPE in the least restrictive environment.

True.

I have a friend in Florida. 2 kids are too young to be vaccinated. One has an IEP and has a some health conditions (not sure what) but her doctor said it is too dangerous for her to attend school with tons of unmasked kids. The state said not our problem, we don't have to honor your IEP. So she sent the youngest with a mask, and the oldest is now missing a 2nd year in classrooms.

Edit - want to clarify - she IS in school- just not a classroom setting so missing out on the one on one interaction with a teacher. My friend makes sure that she doesn't fall behind, and does extra work with her - but its just not the same.

Some IEPs are more suited to virtual than others. My daughter's speech class for instance was fantastic virtually last year. Has a lot to do with the teacher I'm sure.

In Alachua County, members make about $40,000 a year, and in Broward County about $46,000, according to the State Legislature's Office of Economic and Demographic Research. However, because the state does not pay the salaries of local officials, it cannot withhold the salaries directly.

Honestly I had no idea that school board members made salaries. I always thought it was something people did out of the goodness of their hearts... shows how naive I am.

Dillweed dermatologist posts on FB that students/parents should lie to school officials and say they had covid over the summer to avoid quarantine
I'd like to see the AMA sanction him in some way

and I will add it is incredibly disgusting to see how people are behaving about this. I hear, "this doesn't really effect kids" which is untrue and the stats on pediatric ICUs backs that up. But even if it were true, there are teachers, janitors, food prep staff, admins, and it is clear that the general population does not give a darn about these people. They act like the kids spend all day with only other kids and then don't go home to family. I know several people who've contract covid from their kid

The vast majority are volunteers and receive no pay.

In some places they are elected so that may require a salary. Wasn’t aware it was a job that commanded a salary like that. How much time does it take out of your schedule?

Agree 100%.

My neighbor is an MD at Le Bonheur here in Memphis and he says it's worse than he's ever seen.

But these idiots will spew whatever pops into their heads in order to rationalize their decision to put others at harm.
