79-70 without Green. Was down by 14 in the first half. Down 0 to 11 to start. Normally we're winning in the 1st half by double digits, then lose the game. Playing backwards seems to work. Now we got some momentum to take care of the Barn this Saturday. I'll be there. :BigA:

We outrebounded them by at least 25. the big guys really stepped up tonight coming off the bench and Torrance played awesome. maybe we can get some momentum going in the tourney and finish the regular season beating auburn.

Yeah, very good win tonight. Hopefully we beat Auburn at home Saturday, and carry a little 2 game winning streak into the SEC Tourney Thursday. Hey who knows what could happen lol.

I'm impressed with this win. This was one of those road games that would have turned into a blowout loss in recent seasons.

Great win for the long run! It's interesting that we don't have as many posts when we win, as opposed to when we lose?

Tuscaloosa News:

This time, it’s Bama with the big comeback
Thought this was a telling quote:

“We really came together tonight,” said Tide guard Mikhail Torrance. “There were not any attitudes out there tonight. We really played as a team.

I was in Columbia for the game, and we made just enough plays at the start to stick around. Then we started locking down the defense.

Knox and Hines were impressive early, particularly Justin in his aggressiveness on the offensive end. Hillman came in and immediately jacked a couple of jump shots that had me cringing, but they went in, and he played a big role in the first-half comeback. Still, there is such an odd energy about the kid that you never quite know what to expect. And he's our one player who just doesn't seem to bother about working on defense, trip after trip.

Brock, for a senior guard, is way too up and down. Mitchell played well despite getting bounced a couple of times on drives to the basket.

Torrance was the star. He played exceptional defense on Downey. South Carolina would spread the floor and put the ball in Downey's hands time after time when the game was on the line and Mikhail just relished the challenge. He made a series of excellent passes on our last rush, and nailed every free throw. The kid played an inspired second half.

One last thing: Our team played really hard.

Well done.

Two words: Band Wagon. "Wah! We're not winning every game! We're not winning games I think we should be winnining. Blah-di-blah-di-BLAH!"

The fact is, when folks frequently post the reality that Grant was up against (not much talent, no depth, etc., etc.) people either can't read, or can't comprehend. In what fantasy-land was Grant supposed to come in like gangbusters with this squad and win big? In what alternate universe was he supposed to do better than Saban did in his first year with his dysfunctional team? You can keep your trashing of the team after every loss, but I'm sticking with my Tide. I'm willing to wait for the results. It is sad that there are 8-9 measly posts on a gutsy win, when there would've been 4-5 pages of griping and moaning and dead-horse beating if we had lost. ENOUGH is ENOUGH! Did any of you naysayers notice the rebounding difference between us and USCe minus Green? That is no accident! The tougher defense that we've been playing, and the straightening out of character issues does not happen overnight in reality. I've lived through losing to La-Monroe in football, and it was low, but I was WILLING...TO...WAIT.

Back to your regularly scheduled WAH-ing (or you could choose to celebrate, for good reason).

It's nice to see us comeback for once, but mitigating is the consideration that USC is in a horrific downslide right now.

Stating the obvious here, but what does it say that we outrebounded them like that WITHOUT the guy who is supposed to be our most talented post player? When combined with Torrance's comments, assuming they were intentional, seems to point the finger right at Green.

As I and others have repeatedly said on this forum, Green has a long way to go not to be a complete bust relative to his hype coming out of high school. He needs to put in serious work on his body, his footwork, his post moves, and his toughness before next year.

I recorded the game but have not had the chance to watch. Did Bama play man-to-man defense most of the game? (Trying to figure out where all the rebounds came from.)

I didn't realize USC had such a poor record; regardless, any game at their home court has to be tough. This has to make the players feel better.:)

You are correct about that. When's the last time that we won our first and last SEC road games of the year. Hey, I know it isn't much, but I'm trying to find some positives as we finish the year. I'll take a win over Auburn this Saturday and be happy.

We ran a controlled break, with good results, for long stretches in the second half. Our big guys and Tony really ran hard. If we didn't score, they were often in position for the offensive rebound. South Carolina went almost exclusively with a three-guard lineup, and we manhandled them.

Again, it's been gratifying to watch on TV just how hard our kids play. This was my first live game of the year, and the fight in our depleted Alabama team was even bigger than I expected.
