Bama Depth at QB

Heard on the news last night that AJ is now 2nd behind GMAC on the depth chart (but heard it sooner from practice reports, as he was practicing with the first and second teams last week).
Does anyone think this is because CNS is determined to throw the ball down the field? I watched Star throw a TD pass in the Army A-A game, and it looked to be about 30 - 40 yds and it was dead on the money. I know AJ has a rifle and is very accurate, but I was just wondering what others thought about this.

I liked AJ for having a lot of measurables coming into this season. The only thing that holds him back IMO is his inexperience, relative new status at running the offense, and his weight (I'd like him to be a bit heavier). Perhaps AJ has learned the offense enough though, that CNS would be comfortable having him back there more so than Star should GMac go down (let us pray this does not happen). I definitely think AJ could throw a pretty deep ball, but I have no clue how he'd handle the pressure of an SEC game so early.

Re: Bama depth chart

Starr looked pretty good in the 2 minute drill earlier in the season. This seems a bit strange this late in the season.

I'm not right all the time but I would bet a small fortune that if needed Starr would go in a game before AJ and AJ will redshirt.

Well, Bayou, I AM right all the time, and I would bet a large fortune that if needed, Star would go in a game before AJ, and AJ will redshirt.

The bye week usually brings extra work/evaluation for a bunch of third/fourth stringers. I'm inclined to believe this scenario but,,, if something this big is really happening.... LET ME KNOW!

I cannot see CNS burning McCarron's redshirt.
I couldn't, either, until I heard about the practices, then I thought maybe it was nothing more than what it was - practice. But listing someone second on the depth chart is something else; I know how CNS feels about those things (ill), but why do it? I just thought it was very strange...but together with what I "heard" about the practices, it just looked very bizarre, all things considered.

It would seem odd to waste a redshirt year for AJ this late in the season. Although didn't Smelley come in fairly late last year when everyone thought he was heading for a RS year? I know it's a different position and that may also have some impact; but Saban always says he'll play the best at a position regardless of year. Who knows, but I would doubt that AJ would play unless an absolute emergency. LSU isn't the kind of defense or game that you want to start a true freshman QB.

Saban usually goes with experience at the QB position which is unlike his M.O. at other position. I think if there ever was a situation where McElroy was knocked out, I think Star would be the QB to see the field. He has the most experience and wouldn't require burning a redshirt if GMac was only out for a series or game. If GMac was lost earlier in the season due to an injury, I think McCarron would be very likely to see snaps but at this point I think Jackson and/or Darrah would be the only guys to see snaps.

If I'm greatly mistaken, and I think I am, the only way we will see AJ in a game this year is if, heaven forbid, we have two injured QB's .

I would bet three. Check out JessN's depth chart in the stickys.

I'm a dum........what and where are the "Stickys"?
I have to admit, when Lance Crawford said that on the news last night about AJ being #2 I was a little unnerved, but LC is kinda strange, for an SD...
