Bama Fans Behavior

Hey everyone,

I got back from New Orleans Sunday evening and I wanted to take a second and pass along my thoughts regarding your fans.

I was completely and utterly impressed with the Alabama fan base. Not only did you guys show up in droves, but it was fun to see how an educated fan base can influence a game. You knew when to get on your feet and when to get loud. You knew when to boo and when to accept a call.

I happened to be sitting in an all-Alabama section and the fans were more than gracious and I can't say enough nice things about the experience. No one yelled at me or told me to sit down, nothing got poured on me, and I didn't get into any scuffles. If anything, my hand got tired from shaking so many hands.

Aside from the waves of bushy haired college guys getting in our faces before the game with more roll tides than we could handle, and my personal favorite, a guy jumping in front of us and yelling "Welcome to the SEC", the fans were awesome.

I am sorry that some of you didn't get too excited to play Utah and I can't help that, but it was a pleasure to play Alabama and I wish you all the best next year.

Go Utes!

Most of us were just glad to be back in the Sugar Bowl and in a BCS bowl game, we didn't care if it was against Texas or Troy St.

Medute,

Glad you had good encounters with the Bama faithful. I know every fanbase has their knuckle heads, but unfortunately our experience with the few Utah fans we interacted with was not pleasant. I'm sure this is the exception and not the rule for Utah fans, but it took us off guard a bit. Those fans seemed to carry that chip on their shoulder a little overzealously.

Maybe we'll meet down the road again!!

Thanks for the kind words. You need to get the word out to fellow utah fans about how a class fan base conducts itself. I have attended two football games at the U. One being the ice bowl where utah fans were throwing chunks fist size chunks of ice at byu fans in the stands. Some fans were injured in the process. I was at another game, also at the Rice Eccles where my wife and I had coke thrown on us by Utah fans. Both experiences left bad impressions on me and my wife. Thanks for the class you exibited in your post. Hopefully that class will rub off on some of your fellow fans.

Most of the Utah fans we encountered were very nice. There were a few obnoxious drunks in the Quarter following the game, but that could be said for any fan base.

The only bad experience we had came in the hotel lobby Sunday morning. Two Utah fans were pretty loud and one of them kept referring to "Bama white trash girls". There was a group of Alabama coeds in the lobby and he kept talking on and on in their direction.

Finally, one of the girls stood up and said, "We're students at Alabama and I would appreciate it if you would watch your mouth." The guy yelled back, "Hey, it's all in good fun. We just won a big game."

I said, "Congratulations. Now you know what it's felt like to be a Bama fan for the last 100 years. The next thing you can work on is acting like you've been there before. And, btw, calling our young ladies white trash is a helluva a way to get yourself a one way ticket to the swamp tour."

It felt soooo good.

WOW! That's their version of talking trash in "good fun". They must've been hammered!
Unfortunately these were the types of fans I ran into. Even the next morning at breakfast. A former co-worker and his wife said they ran into very nice Utah fans - I certainly wish I had but I am glad there were some there because I did not see a single one in the 3 days. I know Bama fans have "bad" fans (as do all schools) but I was about to scream before I left NO.

I repeatedly heard how 'disgusting' the South was and how they couldn't wait to get back to Utah. I had had enough by Saturday and told this one particular dude "what the he!! do you expect? YOU did come to New Orleans! Don't let your experience in New Orleans cloud your judgment of the South". He just sat there stunned. I kept walking because I did not want to be overly rude to him but, I think he got my point.

Dang, my BP is rising just thinking about it! LOL

I thought the Utes were pretty well behaved.

They had a few crazies, but they were definitely the minority.

A funny story.
This one kid was ribbing one of the guys with me and my buddy said "Act like you've been there before" and the Utah fan said, "but we haven't". We all just cracked up laughing and ended up having a good conversation with all of us.

By far the most annoying and classless Utah fan was the one behind me... but when he said Go Tigers, I realized that he wasn't a Ute fan after all. :)

I've been a BAMA fan my whole life and have never been embarrased by another BAMA fan until last Friday.I wasn't going to mention this, but with all the other comments thought it wouldn't hurt to share. Plus it's something I'll never forget and it has bothered me since it happened.

The Utah player's hotel was about 2 blocks from ours. I'd noticed the buses picking them up out our window. We (my family & I) just happened to walk out onto the street about the time they were driving by. When we looked over low and behold there were 4-5 Bama fans standing off the sidewalk in the street giving them the middle finger!! This was one of the most classless acts I've ever witnessed. Fortunately, it's not the norm.

ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!

And if so, only for a few hours.

All of the Utah fans I encountered before, during, and after the game were great.

We southerners can get along with anyone so long as you don't bash our region, our football team, or our women.
