Bama getting no respect

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

My take on this is the conferences. How on earth would any committee not have the SEC champion in the playoff? I would be fine with GA, ALA, OSU, MICH right now, no matter what happens Saturday. These are your 4 best.
The SEC has been pretty awful in OOC games against other P5 teams. This is not the season to demand the SEC is an automatic bid.

What I want, in addition to us beating UGA, is utter chaos because, frankly, it's fun to watch that happen. We usually see one such weekend every year and we haven't seen it this year.
If the committee really does have an agenda, then we are hosed without such insanity.

We can only control what we can control (good mantra for life, btw), so our job is beating UGA.

Yeah because the thing is what they will say is..

“Well if Alabama beat them by 40 they must not have been as good as we thought”

Me personally I wouldn’t hate the thought of missing the playoffs so badly if it weren’t for the fact that our consolation prize would be Tulane in the Peach Bowl.

I mean Gag.

At least give us the Oregon/Wash loser in the Fiesta or even tOSU in the Orange or something.

We won’t give a flip about playing Tulane… the players I mean.

I just want to beat UGA tbh and whatever happens after that so be it.
I`ve seen one projection putting us in the Cotton against Ohio State. Tulane? FWIW ( not a thing to anybody else but me, probably ), Alabama vs. Tulane would have BOTH of my alma maters going head to head! I hope that doesn`t happen for a couple of reasons, one of which you`ve mentioned.

Does the SEC even have a signature win by one of its top teams? It's been decades since the conference has been so indistinguishable from the rest.

Does the B10 have one? nope....and PAC12's are all looking quite mediocre right now....Texas has the best OOC win of all the top teams. You have to play them to count them....and only Bama and UT have played each other... but the committee only values wins vs weak teams..as per the statement on Oregon being where they are...

I subscribe to The Athletic and read an article from Stewart Mandel who laid out the 16 possible scenarios for CFP final 4. In all 8 scenarios in which has Bama beating Georgia, he's got them in the playoffs no matter the outcome of the other conference championship games. There was one scenario with Bama and Georgia entering the playoffs and it involves Bama, Oregon, Louisville and Okie State winning the games, leaving Ohio State in #5.
I'm sorry, but he's an idiot if that is really what he wrote. Are people not listening to what the committee shill is saying when interviewed each week? He has basically told us what will happen, more than any other person in years past. Just last night he flat out said that if Texas wins they will remain ahead of Bama no matter what Bama does because of the H2H. They are favoring that one game in Sept over everything that has happened since and all other metrics.
I just don't think it's that simple. Again, the impact of beating the #1 team will carry a tremendous amount of weight, along with being the SEC champion. The #1 team, in any poll, has not lost this year, so we have no idea how the committee will reward that.
Again, just go back and listen to the CFP shill interviews each Tuesday. This committee views Oregon as one of the best teams in the nation all because they dominate their (pathetic) opponents. Wouldn't surprise me if the biggest arguments in the committee room all year have been about possibly slotting a 1 loss Oregon ahead of FSU. That is how much they love the Ducks, it shows in their comments. I'm sorry but, if Oregon wins, they will move up at least 1 spot, guaranteed.

Last night's CFP shill interview seriously told us what will happen. If FSU and Texas win, Bama is out. This would be their final poll:

1 - Mich
2 - FSU or Wash (if Wash wins, they move to 2, if Oregon wins FSU moves to 2)
3 - FSU or Oregon
4 - Texas
5 - Bama
6 - UGA
7 - OSU
8 - Oregon/Wash

We need FSU to lose, then I think it would be Mich, Wash/Oregon, Texas, Bama.

Again, IMO, the CFP shill basically told us this last night. No, not in exact detail but... They love love love Oregon; no 1 loss is jumping an undefeated; and Bama will not jump Texas unless UT loses. I'm just telling you what I heard the dude say.

If we miss the playoffs I can live with it. What I don't want to have to live with is Georgia threepeating. Beat Georgia and let the chips fall.

You are both right. Oregon has beat nobodies. But they beat the heck out of most of them. They should not be ahead of Alabama, but this is a committee of fand, and fans love offense.
Didn't they come out and say that they are looking at Oregon's point differential? Which essentially encourages the old school unsportsmanlike behavior of running up the score on inferior opponents (window dressing). Are we all now supposed to become Barry Switzer's Oklahoma teams?

Yes, last night Rece asked him about Oregon's schedule being ranked below all other 1 loss teams and the shill said roughly "yes but they dominated their opponents". That is the only argument they have that favors Oregon and they want them in so that is what they are using.

That translates to "they did what good teams do to inferior opponents".

The only two things we can do instead of worry is:

1. Beat Georgia

2. Cancel the Wisky home and home. Why play a tough OOC game ever again???
Exactly! This committee has told everyone that having a tough schedule is pointless. Just play and dominate inferior teams and you are in like Flinn. Other teams with the exact same record and tougher schedules need not apply.

What's funny to me is, next year none of this matters.

12 team playoff and we've got an absolute killer schedule. At LSU, at Tennessee, at Oklahoma, at Ole Miss.....home vs Georgia, we've got Missouri and we've got that road game vs Wisconsin. That's 7 tough games.

Three games we've got what should be sure wins....the first 2 and that game vs Mercer.

Then we've got SCarolina and Vandy mixed in.

So 7 tough games, 5 that should be wins. We'll have to go 10-2 to get in the playoff. Gone are the days of needing to run the table.
