That's right, folks. NOBODY wants to coach at the University of Alabama. It's a has-been program. NOBODY cares and NOBODY is paying attention.

---------- PROGRAM INTERRUPTION -----------

"We're breaking away from President Ford's funeral to give you this update on the Alabama coaching search."

That's good stuff. It's pretty funny how some ESPN analysts claim the Bama job is not a good one, and then they lead off SportsCenter with information about the Alabama coaching search.

Reese Davis corrected May and Granny last night by pointing out that it's the coach, not the job. USC wasn't a desired job before Petey came along. Now look at it.

He also called May down a bit when May was talking again about the standard of living between Miami and Tuscaloosa.

I like what Craig James said on the ABC panel yesterday. He said just look at OU and USC. Tradition rich programs with storied pasts but had fallen on hard times for quite some time. One Bob Stoops and a Pete Carroll later and they're back to powerhouse status. Bama is in same situation. People want to act like Bama has gone past some point of no return and no matter what we do we'll always be a fallen storied program.

But I think people are making more of Bama's "hard times" than need be. It's not like we're only winning 2-3 games a year. We're competitive and the problems are obvious. Lack of discipline (coaching problem), lack of intensity (coaching problem) and lack of preparation (coaching problem). Solution to these problems is hire a good coach. Next topic.

Great point. We are only a coach away from being back on top. Even that low budget Fran was well on his way to bringing Bama back to the big time if he would have held the rope a little longer.

:BigA: Yeah, I mean it was only ALL over the radio, tv, internet, papers, etc. Everybody has an opinion on it. We are just like the NY Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys, the LA Lakers, and Eminem... things seem so empty without us. Everybody wants us to return to greatness, with exception of the Barn.:BigA:

They only make a big deal out of our fall from grace because Bama gets ratings. Not to sound conceited but, they make a big deal on t.v. about where the program is beacuse, when its about Bama people watch.

They also know with what we are willing to pay, we are going to end up with a good coach. So in the next year or two they will get to talk about how amazing it is that we are back, and how the program was brought back from the dead. They know we will win again and they are setting it up to be a big story. Because in the end when Bama wins, the networks gets big ratings. The bigger the story, the bigger the comeback from the depths of probation the bigger the ratings for the games.

IF UA's coaching search is not a big deal, and Bama is no longer an important job, then tell me of one other coaching search IN THE COUNTRY, IN ANY SPORT, AT ANY LEVEL, that has brought as much media attention, sporting or otherwise!!

Penn, you may be closer to the nuts & bolts of it than anyone. It's not always about what's happening now, but what's being set up for later. This is true, even during a game, or recruiting season, (or a coaching search?)etc.

Yeah.....all the Aubie boards are "melting down" speculating on the search. They aren't even talking about how lucky they are with that big win yesterday.
