Well, back in the real world, I just saw on another site that Terrell Lewis has accepted an offer to play in the Senior Bowl. Call me old school, and I know it's a new day and age, but if you're going to play in another game, it should be with your team that needs you, not some all-star collection. I do love the Senior Bowl, and glad he was selected, but if you're going to play there, play with your team too.
Yeah, I don't like the way this looks. So you would rather play with a bunch of strangers than play with your brothers that you were with for four years? I was all about giving him a break like others said about them being injured earlier in his career and skipping the bowl game. Maybe he is just looking at it like he wouldn't play a whole lot of snaps in the senior bowl.

I agree that they should be able to choose not to play without judgement. I am torn on the bowl attendance and swag thing though. One the one hand, that stuff is a reward for the season's work, not the bowl play itself. On the other hand, shouldn't there be some consequence for a decision not to play?
If they elect not to play in the bowl then they elect not to receive that reward, I think they should not go or get the swag.
Alabama should continue to support them in preparation for draft, use of facilities now and into future, finish degrees/scholarship etc. I think if they go, I think that could be a distraction to the team. I am slightly conflicted if they would be a distraction in the facilities now, however college should support college students developing their genius, and football is their genius, just like math is to some.

I agree that bowl game benefits should go to those who are healthy and choose to play, and those who aren’t playing only because they are unable to do so (injury).
Those that electively choose not to play should only enjoy the plaudits they earned during the regular season(s) that they played in.
Just one opinion of many. Cheers

The seniors bowl is an NFL recruiting exhibition, full-stop.

Yeah, it's a tough call but after thinking about it for several days now I just think all things considered these two have earned the right to protect their future. I don't see where anything is gained by excluding them from bowl activities.
Leaving them out of bowl activities let's them know there are consequences to their actions. If TL can play in the Senior Bowl then he should play with his team mates that have supported him while at Alabama. You shouldn't be able to have it both ways.

How do you "mute" people? Is that even a thing?

Not that I would do it but it is an interesting feature.
I think it is the "Ignore" option, though I don't use it. You click on a person's name in a thread and you get the options to follow, ignore or start a conversation.

O.K. Thank you. I just did that to your name and see that now. It really wouldn't be much fun to ignore people though. I get upset if I miss one of the posts that have been deleted by a moderator. I always wonder what inflammatory mess they said to get it taken down.

I have less hand wringing about Terrell and Trevon sitting the bowl game out.

First, the bowl games are basically exhibitions and extra practice now. That is just the new reality in the playoff era.

Second, Both graduated in December. They came to Bama, played football and got a degree.

Third, they both have injury histories. These guys got seriously injured while playing for Bama, worked their butts off in rehab to get back, and then played at a high level (All-SEC). I understand with their injury history that there is more risk than reward for playing in an exhibition game rather than preparing for the Senior Bowl and the NFL draft.

I get that it is disappointing they won't play, but I think of it this way. A top student was on an Academic Scholarship to Alabama and on the Debate team. S/he graduated and has important interviews coming up with law schools, including some top ones. The debate team has an exhibition debate that while fun contributing with my teammates, could interfere with prep time for the interviews. Do you miss the law school prep classes in order to do the debate? I think it is up to the individual and can understand reasons for both. I think the players and coaches understand too (although they might be disappointed), although as fans it is harder to let go.

I have a couple of points to make, but I'm afraid that I'd get crushed by someone on a collegiate debate team!!! JK!!!

We all see the logic. I’m guessing that people like me who have played on TEAM sports that if your team is still playing you have a responsibility to your brothers. That’s just me. I know that things have changed but I’d be playing because that’s what you do.

Under Saban the expectation is to beat unranked teams. He's done that better than anyone in the history of college football, beating every unranked team since the loss to UL-Monroe in 2007.

If Bama is injury free they go 11-1 or 12-0. I think most Bama fans would agree with that. However, if you asked the average Bama fan in August if 10-2 with losses to LSU and AU and no top 25 wins would be successful I think the answer would be (should be) "no". Yes, the injuries were a big reason for that, but the reason for the unsuccessful season doesn't make it any less unsuccessful. 10-2 for a Saban team with a 2 game schedule is not successful.

There are about 25 teams that would have been 10-2 against Bama's schedule.
There are only about 5 teams who would be 10-2 with the injuries we had. You can’t just dismiss the injuriesand the effect they had in the big games.

Put yourself in his shoes and it's just not that simple I don't think.

I honestly don't care that they're sitting out. I'm happy for them that they are about to have a chance to realize their dreams.

I think B1G made the point that this bowl game is really all about next year and I largely agree with him. So in some ways its better for the team that they aren't playing.

idk, I just can't get upset about kids so close to reaching their dream doing everything they can to preserve it.

On the surface, sitting out our Bowl game would get under my skin. Especially when they elect to go to the Senior Bowl.

Except...............

The Senior Bowl is pretty much a dog and pony show, for the NFL types to scout the talent. Hard to pass on that one, if your goal is to play in the NFL. Not all players get an invite, so an additional "up close" once over is something they should probably use to their advantage. They will only play a limited number of downs, as the goal is to showcase all of the players who are there.
