It’s no longer college football. We are now in the price is right era…education and wins are secondary to how many dollars I can spend on a car and a lazy boy for the parents. When the eligibility is shot and you’re degree is a hodgepodge of meaningless classes and your name and ability don’t count for anything welcome to low and middle management positions. Frankly your resume shows me you don’t last anywhere and you aren’t job worthy. This will be a great HBR case study 20 years from now.
They’ll just give you another year of eligibility…

I saw this on another message board

Is this true??!!? Yikes if so. Not good for Deboar

Bama is quietly bleeding out their current talent. They've basically lost an entire recruiting class this portal cycle. In this portal window, so far:
  • Bama has had 24 players portal, 11 (!) were in their 2-deep.
  • They’ve lost four 5-stars, and sixteen 4-stars. That's almost a 3rd of their blue chip players from the 2024 roster, not counting graduating players.
  • They’ve lost 21 top 250 players, and 12 top 100 players.
Maybe, but if we had 17 5* kids, 4 transfer, 3 graduate or declare, four 5* kids in this recruiting class, that still leaves fourteen 5* kids. Probably still more than any other school. The transfers were to be expected, CKD didn’t recruit them, some may not have liked his system,. Get back to competing for championships and things will right themselves. Georgia has ten players in the portal, their portal window closes in a few days, let’s see how they fare as a barometer. I say most top teams will lose 15-17 players per year to the portal.

Makes no sense. Three* kid out of HS, always believed to be raw with great measurables. Can’t get NIL, and had a very promising first year. He could start in ‘26, and the way our backers got injured this year, he could start at some point in ‘25. Again, makes no sense. Cultural thing?
If he signs quickly with another school...it could be tampering again...🙄

Welcome to College Football 2025, where every 3* out of HS can transfer to another school and become a starter whenever they feel like it. There is no longer a “wait & learn” period.
With Lawson & Jefferson back, and barring injuries, he would not be a starter for us in 2025. However, he is probably good enough to start for several other college teams, including some in the SEC.

I'll be honest, we are losing guys to the portal I forgot we even had. Hadn't heard most of these guys names since they signed.

And you are right. CNS only signed a handful of 3 stars and there was a reason, so the rest of them were 4 and 5 stars.

*REMINDER FOR ALL OF US* Based on JessN's articles in the past which reviewed signing classes down the road, only about half of a normal class of 25 will ever play. Hopefully, most of these guys are the half that would have never played.
And out of the 22 class only Ty Simpson and Jam Miller are left, nobody has patience and wants to be developed

Correct me if I wrong, but I think rookie contracts in the NFL are 4 years guaranteed. And if it were up to the owners rookie contracts would likely only be 3 years. And it might end up there as spillover effect from the NIL era of college.

I think in the next 5 years playing in the NFL or playing football anywhere is not going to be as lucrative as it has been unless you can make 7-8 years in the league. There will be an even a further move toward talent cycling in college and the NFL but the USFL will benefit from this as well.

How interesting would it be, if allowed, for NFL washout to actually come back to college to play for the scholarship and the opportunity at a real education? Sort of like the opportunities that MLB offers their minor players only that you could opt for amateur status except in the same sport you were a professional. And what NCAA rule, that is enforceable, would prohibit this?

I mean, JUCO doesn't account against eligibility now. Just make it a free for all for recruiting players whether they are HS graduates, transfers from other programs, NFL washouts, JUCOs, international players, former minor league baseball players. Heck, I would hold tryouts like the Philadelphia Eagles did way back to find players. Give them 5 years to play 5 years.

Essentially, if you play sports now, you are deemed a professional unless you elect to be an amateur, under the argument no one does anything for free unless they choose to do so of their own free will.

Your correct, rookie contract are 4 years with a 5 th year option, why some hold out if they are out performing their contract

We’re watching football morph into its version of college basketball with one and done. The biggest impacts will be development, depth, and quality practice pieces.

I’ll add that’s what we’ve witnessed Bama lose in the portal. It isn’t the super star blue chip starter but it is quality depth that will show up with injuries and will show up in the quality of practices.

I think this could also be something that causes the NFL to get involved.

IF the league starts seeing more players who are unprepared because of the nomadic portal/NIL situation, they may demand to have some input.

Then again, maybe the kids start making so much money in college that for all but the best of the best, they don't even care about the NFL as much as they once did.

I can't recall where someone mentioned Agiye Hall, but I just read he transferred to Sacramento State...talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse.
For Agiye going to Sacramento State is a “Win-Win”. Gets to play football and Sacramento is close to some really “sweet” cannabis grow areas. Play football while “cultivating” other brand opportunities.
