So, according to ESPN's Bill Connelley and Postgame Win Expectancy (PGWE), we now have the two most unlikely losses based on stats in the last two years of college football. Those are last year's Vandy game and this Oklahoma game. Based on the raw stats from the games, we had a PGWE of 98.5% for the Vandy game and 95.2% for the Oklahoma game. That means a team with our stats would expect to win those games at those rates. We are literally snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory!

Just goes to show you the power of turnovers in a game. Can't remember how many TOs against Vandy last year, but I know the number this year against OU and I know they resulted in a 20 point differential. Basically, we gifted them all but 3 of their points from TOs or Special team mistakes.

But, again, I'm not sure how we lay TOs at the feet of the staff. They don't call plays thinking "Oh yeah, let's call a play where we are likely to fumble."

I’ll say Ryan Williams probably shouldn’t have been back for the punt return but that fumble is still on Ryan and not the coaches. I just think we got cute with two returners and should’ve let Cole keep handling them.

Nothing changes as of now. Just no first round bye if we lose the SECC

Yes... I see no benefit in going to the SEC championship game from a playoff perspective. Would be nice to add and SEC crown, but probably more important to retool, rest, and make some playoff noise.

Not specifically speaking to you alone, but since several have said they thought we "slow played the clock," I'm not certain that was the plan.

What I think happened on that last drive was what happened on every other drive in the game. We are simply not built to be a "strike quick" offense. I can't remember many drives this year that we scored quickly (against decent defences).

And even if we had a very reliable field goal kicker, most OCs know a TD is always better than a FG and Grubb surely understood the struggles of Talty.

All I'm saying is our offense the whole game needed 3 downs to convert 1st downs and the last drive was no different. Yes, Grubb might have called a few extra runs because of the 2 deep safeties, but some of those runs produced decent runs that were just as productive as most of our passing plays.

I think it is also because Grubb knows we struggle to make the basic 3rd and short conversions. He's having to work around on OL that isn't reliable to help our RBs gain those basic runs.

I agree as well... I think Grubb should probably tone it down, but he knows that we can't become even more one dimensional than we are.

Our OL and RB just limit us.

The Simpson for Heisman talk is over and thank god. He isnt ready, yet, to win a Heisman. Maybe he was reading his own headlines but it seems ever since he became part of the discussion his play has fallen off. Way Way Way too many mistakes by the entire offense tonight and now it puts us in a spot of "MUST WIN" the barn-yard game to make the playoff. They are always a pain in the keester down there. ARG...

I’ll be honest, I haven’t been that impressed with his play. IMO he is at best our 3rd best reciever, maybe 4th. I’d put Bernard, Brooks, and Cuevas in front of him for guys I’d prefer to see a pass thrown to, especially when the chips are down. Maybe he is just having a sophomore slump, he did after all catch the game winner against UGA last year. But this season he plays timid, like he’d rather be playing flag football, and has terrible ball security.

And why put a guy that timid and turnover prone back to return punts?

My week sucked. Alabama loses in basketball and football, the Chiefs lose, and the Falcons lose. I am pretty sure if the Braves had played they would have lost too.

Brother I feel your pain. However, my NFL teams seemed to do okay, even though Mac Jones carried the 9ers through the dark days of their missing offense and now the offense is back, so is Purdy. Hopefully you didn't lose your dog as well, (just like the country western songs). Things will get better!

IMO, the staff was not being cute at all but DeBoer is a very aggressive coach (not unusual for offensive coaches) and he wanted the PR who could provide a big play, as the O, as good as it has been, has provided very few. Adams’ has great hands but Ryan is their best playmaker by far (RW has provided most of the few Alabama has this year) and had done a good job last year returning some punts. He did not fumble the punt and made a great return, juking and breaking tackles to get 13 yards and as he put his hand down to maintain his balance, the OU player made a good play to punch the ball out - his hand landed directly on the ball. Few if any could maintain possession in that situation. Sometimes things just don’t go your way.

I’m sorry that they probably won’t try him there again.

Ryan has had a tough year, primarily because of things beyond his control and has IMO, garnered some unfair criticism. I’m not saying your criticism of Ryan or the staff is unfair or was expressed harshly, but I wholeheartedly disagree with it.

I would prefer to see Cole handle the punts. I'd also like to see him in on the offense some. He strikes me as a tough kid who can make the clutch catch in traffic when you need a first down, a la Joey Jones.

I think it is like some other posters have mentioned. Almost all offensive coordinators like to show how gifted and creative they are. It is usually their biggest fault. I think they try to show that they aren't meatheads, but they usually just out think themselves by making simple things complicated.

Yet, at least as far as I could tell, not even one of the TOs were the result of “cute” play calling by the OC.
