Bama should hire Ron Zook.

Believe it or not, this guy is a good coach. I'm not saying make him a coordinator or anything, but make him a position coach or something. He is a great recruiter and i think we could benefit greatly from his presence. UF doesnt know what they are getting into. First, they fire Zook expecting to get Spurrier. Now, Meyer says he is staying at UTah. Who are they going to get that is better than Zook?? Nobody.

I get the feeling he will be getting another shot at HC at some school... prolly a smaller school. Kinda like Price got his second shot at UTEP.

But ajacks04, where do you get this about Meyer staying at Utah? As far as I know, indications are getting stronger that he'll come to UF.

Yes, Zook is a good recruiter

but he has a reputation of going into recruits houses and using a lot of profanity. If that's what it takes to recruit well, thanks but no thanks. I'm no choir boy but I don't think you need to (or should) use profanity in front of the parent(s). It makes for a poor image for the University.

what a joke....he has the most talent in the SEC and loses 4 games. I can never get over some of the posters heres lack of understanding. GReat recruiter...yes he does seem to bring them in,however, the problem with that is his methods. He has a reputation of questionable ethics and tactics,and his team has little discipline. I would be sick if UA ever hired someone like that!

I agree completely. Zook was taking Florida down the dark path, towards the depths occupied by Florida State and Miami. Discipline seemed nonexistent and off-campus, off-the-field encounters with law enforcement were becoming a problem.

Also, former head coaches don't always do well in subordinate roles. In 1997, Alabama had two former head coaches serving as assistants. Curly Hallman and... and... that other dude.

Zook will probably return to the NFL, probably as a coordinator or position coach. Every indication I have says Bobby Petrino takes the Florida job, while Meyer goes to Washington or stays with Utah one more year, in the hopes of the Notre Dame and Ohio State jobs opening up.

There was a guy on the radio this morning who works for the station in Jacksonville FL that is the flagship station for the Gaytors. He said that Zook has already been contacted by 3 NFL teams for an assistant, possibly DC, positions. It is doubtful that he will be back in college any time soon.

And no, he won't be an assistant for Spurrier, although that would make an interesting game each year, USC vs UF.
