Not sure Oats’ meat-grinder scheduling is having the effect he hoped for this year.
It remains to be seen. If losing these games hardens and teaches and we use them to shore up obvious weaknesses then these losses will be good ones.
I don't know about y'all, but we could be 11-0 right now if we played a bunch of cupcakes, but that really wouldn't tell us anything about where we stand approaching SEC play so I'd rather us know what we are up against.
I think the defense is getting better, but the lack of bigs to defend and rebound is a huge hole that we probably can't fill this year.
I know it doesn't help to say it but the loss of Beds is obvious but Miller and Clowney were excellent defenders and rebounders too! We miss those last two just as much on defense as offense.
I'm afraid this year we are a lot like the old Big 12 football offenses. We we are on (making 3's) nobody will be able to defend us cause we can overcome bad defense and outscore everybody. But when we struggle offensively against better teams, we are going to struggle to win.
Make no mistake about it, these games will help us in SEC play, but we probably don't have the horses to make a run at the SEC again this year.
