BAMA 4th: pop up to short, single to left by Heivilin, Broadfoot hits into DP. (Auburn's 4th of the series). This is against one of Auburn's down the line pitchers. If I heard right, she's played third base more than she's pitched. I wish we could hit.

Barn 4th: Solo HR to LF, soft liner single to LF, K, runner caught stealing at 2nd, 2 down, walk, wild pitch sends runner to 2nd, then steals third, fly out to CF. 3-0 Auburn after 4. Beaver is throwing "okay", but she's falling behind a lot in the count.

BAMA, 5th: K, pop up to C, single to the LCF wall by Duchserer, ground out to 3rd, inning over.

Auburn 5th: Alea Johnson in to pitch for BAMA, fly out to LF, fly out to LF, walk, K. Still 3-0 Auburn.

BAMA 6th: Soft liner to 1B, Cahalan - single to RF, Johnson HBP, (it took all the way to the sixth inning for us to get a RISP), Heivilin K's on a pitch right down the pipe. you gotta hit that, Broadfoot, infield pop up. No runs for BAMA.

I don't know who the lady announcer is but she did play the game. She may have said it best when she said it looks like we have made no adjustments to the way the Auburn pitcher is throwing. She should probably just say BAMA can't hit to save their life.

Auburn 6th: Bunt out, (Auburn's having fun now. That was their big home run hitter trying to beat out a bunt), pop out to left, dribbler gets by the pitcher, safe at first, K. Still 3-0 Auburn.

BAMA 7th: BAMA's last chance: Grill looks at two pitches right down the pipe. Swings at ball off the plate for strike 3, pop up to SS, fly out to LF. BAMA drops another series in the SEC. Barn wins 3-0.

I had totally forgot about Kilfoyl. Did not realize she’s having an awesome season for the Cowgirls. That group who all left in 21/22 would totally change the narrative on the past few seasons probably. Although, would they have developed as they have if they’d stayed??
Again, the ladies play extremely hard, represent UA well, but overall we have a talent level that is in the bottom half of the best conference in the country.

The state of this program is getting g worse every year. Murphy won't change his mind set. He plays favorites and not the best players I'd be very surprised if half the team doesn't transfer after this disaster of a season. He hires the guy who was a volunteer coach for years as his hitting coach as if he is going g to make a difference. It is just the same problem we've had for years, can't hit. Bryne needs to give him a wakeup call and force him to make changes. If he won't do it,it's time to move on.

So, BAMA ends up 10-14 in the SEC. We lost every SEC series except against Ole Miss, the last place team. It seems like, at least for the last month or so, we can't win unless the other team doesn't score. The entire reason we haven't won is we can't hit. It's the proverbial "can't hit water if you fell out of a boat" bad. Murphy had a chance to hire a hitting coach but chose not to. Something's got to give. The ladies are giving it their all, they just need some coaching. You can't rely on the pitcher to throw a shut out every game. Unless Beaver throws a shut out in the SEC tourney, we'll probably be one and done. Looks like we're in 9th place and will play the 8 seed, (MS State), in the last game Wednesday. We'll see what happens.

Kilfoyl has had TWO good years at OSU. Can't imagine she wouldn't be a BIG help if she was still at BAMA. Murphy lost the team and program a couple of years ago and now he's just hanging on.

End to a pretty disappointing regular season. With the 10-14 SEC record, they have the first losing record in conference in program history. Series record was only 1-7. That may be the worst series record of all the conference teams. I know Ole Miss even went 2-6 for their series record.
The only positive I can really draw from the SEC season is they were never swept in a series.

We may a lot of "firsts" this year. It's already our first ever losing season in the SEC. Going into the Auburn series I think our RPI was 15. After losing the series we may drop down and not even host a regional. Can you imagine BAMA softball not hosting a regional? Maybe we'll get one, but we won't be the 1 seed. The Super Regional streak is also gone now. You have the green light to hire a hitting coach, but Murphy decides to stick with a guy who's already proven he doesn't know what he's doing. Our ladies aren't bad players, they just need good coaching. Oh, what a sad year.

I remember when we picked to finish 7th and while I knew we were not a top 3-4 team, I wrote on here I felt we’d finish 5th- I was way off. Staring up at State, USC, and Mizzou is strange territory.
Addition of OU and Texas just made it that much harder- two top 10 programs

Oh yeah!!! Texas and Oklahoma are 1 and 2 in the current RPI Softball standings. It's going to be interesting to see how they adapt to the SEC and current SEC teams adapt to them.

Are we the only team in the SEC that hasn't won a series this season...?🙄
I think we are the only team that only won 1 series. Granted, we did play 5 of the top 6 teams this year in the SEC - (Tenn, Florida, A&M, Arkansas, and Georgia - lost all of these) - but we also played 3 teams who finished lower than us - (Kentucky, Auburn, Ole Miss) - and still lost the series to Kentucky and Auburn. Plain and simple, we have no offense. Beaver is a good pitcher, and we have a couple of youngsters that will be good, but we give them no help. I really get tired of announcers talking about how you have to keep your foot on the gas against BAMA because they can score in bunches. I haven't really seen that this year. I think the biggest "bunch" i've seen is the 2 runs we scored last night against Auburn.

Agreed. I think we had nine players go through Senior Day. And after this abomination of a season, I expect a second mass exodus.

The prognosis for next year makes abysmal look like an aspirational goal.

I think a big change is needed.
Agreed. The numbers against SEC competition are just awful — W/L record, hitting, and fielding. Pitching isn’t horrible, but is below average overall.

Against the SEC, we’re already last in batting average, last in on base percentage, last in fielding percentage, and lead the SEC in errors. If not for Kayla Beaver, we’d likely be last in the SEC in pitching as well.

On top of all that, we regressed as the season wore on. As stated in an earlier post, I don’t know enough about the game to say whether that’s because of lack of talent, lack of mental focus in the face of a lost season, other teams figuring out how to attack our many weaknesses, or what. I just know that we got worse as time passed.

This is at least the third season we’ve seen this. Bailey Hemphill, Montana Fouts, Ashley Prange and a few others masked the problem in the W/L column, but they’re gone now. Even when they were playing, if you watched the games with any sort of evaluation, the hitting problem was obvious and has been for some time.

Hiring the volunteer to be the hitting coach was Murphy saying either “I don’t think we have a problem. I’m still the real hitting coach,“ or “This is the best I can do.” Neither is acceptable.

This season is a lost cause. Right now, today, I’m not sure Murphy can salvage the program. If we have the mass exodus I expect, I know he can’t.

Greg Byrne has some thinking to do.

Looks like one and done in the SEC Tourney. We get LSU Wednesday Morning at 10AM on SEC Network.
Shoot. I was looking at it last night, (before today's games), and I thought we would be playing Miss State in the last game Wednesday. I guess there was a lot of winning and losing today. Maybe Beaver will be spot on and we can win another 1-0 game.
