Bama vs Oklahoma round 2 (Friday December 19th)

My question is, how much better can we be in 2 weeks?

Playoffs are about potential matchups and paths. Indiana probably drew the worst potential first game with two defensive units that are aggressive and two potential offensive units that could explode on a given day. Indiana not playing until January 1st not knowing who they are playing why both of their potential opponents know who they are playing the next two rounds is an advantage to Oklahoma and Alabama. Georgia has the easiest path out of the teams with a bye because they know it’s going to be ole miss

Well you never waivered and were right.

I’m honestly shocked but happy with the draw.

I’d be happy with just getting payback vs OU finally.

Then IF we could do that we would get a puncher’s chance vs IU.

No complaints

Bonus points that the Committee really stuck it to ND

They will be 2023 FSU livid over this….lol
I’ve got 2 ND fans in my friend group and they are absolutely livid. And frankly, I’m kinda in agreement with them lol. It makes no sense to flip Miami and ND when neither team played this weekend. Was purely political to save the ACC.

I predicted on Twitter yesterday that if Alabama made the playoffs, those of you alive 30 years from now need to save all of the receipts you can because rest assured, those slugs are going to claim the 2017 national championship.

As it turned out, I might be 30 years off:

Somebody needs to point out Georgia beat the snot out of them and they'd have to play them again!

I dig that. Thing is, the team has already peaked and now we have lost some key players to injury. We are going to need a new strategy based on some new players, possibly at QB. Just don't see this staff adapting that quickly.

They need to be forced to get in a conference. They want and have been given special treatment for decades.

Agreed, that’s what I told my friends. Just join the ACC like every other sports program at your school. They’d have won the conference title and gotten in.

But the reasoning for flipping ND and Miami is obviously pretextual, and having the #20 and #24 teams get in over them for some automatic qualifier joke is a problem.

Welp. Definitely a game we CAN win. Not a game I feel overly confident in the way our offense has been playing and Venables has out coached Deboer in their two meetings so far.

I don't think we'll beat Indiana but they don't have the pass rushers of some of the other potential teams.

We need to show up though. Can't look as bad on offense as we did vs UGA

Well I think herbstreit pretty much came up with a solution and it’s get rid of the CFP weekly show. I’ve never been worried about us getting in if we won 10 games regardless of what happened in Atlanta. I based this off the political ramifications it would have had on the whole system if they denied Alabama under those circumstances.

I think too many people buy into these rankings shows and forget that they are designed to create interest and controversy. The only ones that matter are the last two. So with Bama at 9 I was 100% confident. The question really was 9 or 10. I picked 9 because I felt the committee would try to do 2 things. 1) prevent a third Alabama-Georgia game unless it’s for the NC and 2) punish Notre Dame for not being in a conference. However I was not expecting them to completely put Notre Dame out. That took guts.

I just think there is a method that the committee does use but they don’t reveal it until they have to. I think everything is designed to get views and ratings until they reveal the real rankings. I think they knew all along that Miami was going to be ahead of Notre Dame and Alabama was safe no matter what going into Saturday. I don’t think there is an anti bama bias or a conspiracy against the sec.

Man, there is no other way to lay this out for Bama.......its going to have to start with our O line......if we dont protect the QB and dont have about 95-125 yds rushing we wont have ANY chance of winning the game. OU plays mistake free ball most of the time and lets their defense handle business.

Win game 1 and game 2 you have all the momentum and the preparation advantage. It’s the playoffs. But I think out of all the roads to Miami we couldn’t have asked for a more favorable one.

Don’t turn the ball over last time and it’s a 10+ point win. I expect it this time.
Just wonderin’, have we suddenly discovered an as yet untapped source of O linemen? Agree that it’s a better draw than A&M would have been. Can’t shake the images of our play on O since the end of October, though. Also can’t shake the feeling that OU is becoming to us what we were to UGA. Well…..until yesterday.

If we can get Cuevas, Dewberry and Jam back and healthy, then that will be huge. By the sound of it, Overton is done unfortunately.

I do think the coaching staff needs to make a tough decision regarding QB. I think we can beat OU with Simpson, but that’s as far as I think we could possibly go. If our goal is to make a legit best effort playoff run then I think we need to use the next twelve days to get Mack or Russell ready.

I haven’t commented on the game last night because I just wanted to stay away until after the selection show, but Simpson looks lost. I know the skill player injuries haven’t helped but his inaccuracy over 15 yards is problematic.

I wonder if not making a QB change was driven by the potential message it would have sent to the committee.
