No, it's economics. These guys are from the NYC area. Generally all officials calling these MSG tournaments are. They're all independent contractors, and can call anywhere, but they tend to stay within easy commute distance from where they live. (There are exceptions.) So, they don't have to worry about losing gigs in the SEC. Why not call it for the team/conference you're more likely to get work from in the future?

Yes I know about the independent contract stuff. We’ve discussed it at length on this board. But, that doesn’t mean they don’t allow, on occasion, the crowd too much influence like we’re seeing today. At the same time, this may be the norm up there and we’re just not used to this type of officiating (I.e., thus your regional comment.)
