Bama Game Thread: Bama vs St Johns - Sat Nov 8 - 11a -FoxSports1

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

This is Alabama Basketball; where is the post-game thread?

I had to leave just before the end of the first half and got back towards the end of the game. I was going to watch the replay starting at the beginning of the 2nd-half but accidentally caught the game at the 7-ish minute mark to see St Johns with a one-point lead. I still tried to go back and watch the entire 2nd half but couldn't stand it so I fast-forwarded through much of it...

Wrightsell played great; that was good to see. I hope St John's is as good as advertised; Bama is the better team. These guys really played well together.

I will have to rely on the Gamethread for the Purdue game since it will be on espn2
You can get the radio broadcast on the internet. Just Google 100.1 in Bham and it will bring up their site. Them click on the “Live broadcast” button. Chris and Brian should be broadcasting that game.

Good win on the road against top 5 team. But we are going to have to get stronger in the front court. Williamson passed up shots right under the bucket.

If the bigs can come into form, this team has a chance to do something. If they dont, then S16 is probably tops for this team.
Hard to impress, aren't you? :D

We must beat a top team on the road, playing 5 vs. 8.

I know it was only the second game of the year, but I don't think we can over exaggerate how big a win that was.

On the road.
Against a top 5 team.
Had to beat Saints and the Stripes.

And it wasn't that we won the game, but we really controlled the game despite being outshot (statistically) from the field, 3pt line, and even FT line (not even counting how many more attempts they had).

The only major stat lines we win are rebounding (43 to 42), TOs (7 to their 12) and steals (9 to their 4). And of course, the scoreboard.

We won this game with pluck and grit. The kind it'll take in March.

Few observations from today. First, it appears that Wrightsell may be the key for us this year. Though we have several shooters on the team, he brings a tenacity and speed to the court that other guys except for Philon can bring... and Philon isn't as fast. With him on the court, we hit another gear on the offensive end. Second, Allen is coming along nicely. Today, he was better than the other 3freshmen and it wasn't particularly close. Every time I watch him, he seems to be getting better - much like it was for Philon most of last season. Third, with the offensive firepower on this team, I don't know that we'll be "out" of any ball game this season - even if we go down by 20 points. The speed with which they turned a two point trail into a ten point lead today was impressive. Fourth, Bol Bowen seems to be finding his "fit" on this team. Fifth, I'm not sure I can fully grasp what we'll look like when we get all of our guys health. Finally, this may be the best win in a good while for us. SJU was a tough, tough team that would have put many of our previous teams away in the second half. And playing against eight instead of five in MSG. Son!

I had to put on a muzzle for my 14 year old. He was getting a little chippy and agitated in the first half, being in no man’s land I had to remind him to watch what he said. Nice to see them finally win a big one at MSG.

Agree with all.

I'm really excited about Allen! He's a playa. Can play 1-4. When he settles into the offense, watch out!

Bowen won the hard hat, but Allen had 20+ points too!

First off wow what a fun game. Wrightsell gave me a big “oh no not again” moment. He looks faster and more fluid this year which is crazy. Allen as others mentioned is a player. No scoring but guy is athletic and strong and could be a big key this year to our rebounding and overall physicality. Great win hands down. Philon is the first guy since Miller to me I look at and think yup NBA at Bama. Guards will be hard to stop alone much less adding in the others.

Refs should be investigated as they blow whistle on us right before or simultaneously with any kind of contact. I absolutely hate commenting on refs but man they were biased.

Watched it today...outstanding win...we are athletic and can play basketball. I was fatigued just watching them go up and down...If we can shoot 45% from the field then we will win most of our games. I'm not sure every team we play will try to match our tempo. SJU did and it hurt them...

I can't figure out why we were ranked so low, especially with Philon coming back. I wonder if anyone will notice we just beat #5 and the gap between the teams was noticeable. I think any knowledgeable neutral observer would conclude the score would have been lopsided, with all those gift FTs SJ was awarded...

They'll take note eventually, but even if we lose some of the games (like Thursday against Purdon't), as long as we compete, I won't even mind a loss.

We are finding out what it takes to compete with these teams; the ones who have put us out of the tourney in late March.

But if we managed to knock off the Boilermakers people will know!
