We all have been reading and watching the “expects” all week talk about the SECCG. Most of the talk has been discussing the two teams Offenses and Defensive stats. Stats are great but they mean little when forecasting a game with the magnitude as this one. What we should be looking at is match-ups. A few years ago I came up with my own little forecasting method. It is a little long but I have been extremely shocked at how accurate it has been on predicting the outcome of big games. I have broken down the matchups and assigned %’s to each . Then I assigned 5 different Match- Up Outcomes. Of course this is purely one mans opinion of what will transpire on Saturday. I look forward to reading everyone else’s opinions.

Outcome Possibilities: Dominate the opposing squad= 5 Points
Winning the majority of the battles = 4 Points
Dead Even Match Up= 3 Points
Loses most of the Battles = 2 Points
Total Flop= 1 Point

Bama OL vs UF DL- Bama’s OL will win it’s share of the battles with Dunlap on the sidelines. I don’t believe UF will stack the box to try and stop the run. They will play us like they have played everyone else all year, man on man. Dead Even - 3 Points

UF OL vs Bama DL- UF has the better of the two OL’s and will need it going against Bama’s front D. The middle will be closed and UF must get Bama’s D line moving side to side to create running lanes and blocking angles. Loss for the Gators- 2 Points

Bama QB vs UF LB/DB- McElroy will see lots of man coverage and will have opportunities to find open receivers. Florida will blitz and try to rush Gmac into making bad throws. UF’s secondary is extremely good. Loss for the Tide- 2 Points

UF QB vs Bama LB/DB- Tebow will be looking at multiple coverages all day long. The Tide will have to play there best game of the year at the second level to come away with a win. Win for the Gators- 4 Points

Bama RB vs UF LB- Florida has one of the best group of LB’s in the country. They are extremely quick to the football. MI and TR will be the difference in this game. Look for the tide to come out with a new wrinkle or two in surprisingly the run game. The wildcat will be used and Bama will move the ball on the ground effectively against the gators. Win for the Tide – 4 Points

UF RB vs Bama LB- Of course Mr. Tebow is counted as a RB in this equation. Demps and Rainey are fast and Tebow is the muscle. Look for UF to try and spread the Tide to create running lanes. Go ahead and write this one down. Saban will have his D ready to shut down the UF running game. Superman will have to win this game with his arm more than any other game he has played. Loss for UF- 2 Points

Bama WR vs UF DB- Bama will need to make big plays in the passing game to help open up the run. UF counters with a deep secondary and some of the best athletes on the team. This match up may be the best battle of the day. Dead Even 3-Points

UF WR vs Bama DB- Unfortunately, the Gators the 2009 WR’s are not in the same class as their predecessors in 2008. However, Percy Harvin did not play in the SECCG last year so his absence doesn’t really matter. The key player in this match-up will not be Cooper, rather the TE Hernandez. The Tide counters with a big time playmaker in Arenas and a ball magnet in Barron.
Loss for UF- 2 Points

Bama Off ST vs UF Def ST- Bama has the best return man in the country period. The question is will he get a chance to display his skills? Tiffin continues to set records for the Tide and may not kick the game winner but I feel comfortable with our chances if he has to line up for the win. Win for Bama - 4 Points

UF Off ST vs Bama Def ST- Brandon James is a special return man but has not put up the big numbers this year. UF’s kicker may not be as solid as Tiffin but the guy has a cannon and he is accurate. Bama will have to improve on it’s kick off coverage to keep UF’s offensive production down. Win For UF- 4 Points

Bama Coaching vs UF Coaching- Of course the key match up here is Saban’s D vs Myers O. We all know whom has spent more time planning and preparing. Bama Wins the Coaching Battle- 4 Points (Of course this means UF loses the coaching battle.)

Bama Intangibles vs UF Int.- The Tide will come out with lots of emotion and will be ready to play on Saturday. They have been waiting on this game since the last one ended. I want try to fool myself here. When it comes to intangibles I believe there is a picture of Tim Tebow. Dominate by UF – 5 Points

MatchUP - %Outcome - UA - UF - Comments

OL vs DL - 35% - 105 - 70 - Most important part of game.
QB vs LB/DB - 20% - 40 - 80 - QB’s are usually the key
RB vs LB - 15% - 60 - 30 - Both Teams want to Run
WR vs DB - 10% - 30 - 20 - Both Teams will have to Pass.
ST vs ST - 10% - 40 - 40 - Top D’s mean more ST plays
Coaching - 5% - 20 - 10 - Good coaching on both sides.
Intangibles - 5% - 5 - 25 - All teams have them, some have more!

UA 295 - UF 275

This is as close as it gets with the Tide edging out the Gators. BAMA 28 UF 26

Not so fast my friend. This is so biased it is not funny. A true score would be dead even. Who is kidding who here? Think what you think. These teams are dead even in talent. This game will come down to whoever can execute. If both do it will be 6-3 Florida or 6-3 Bama or something like that. Course I trust itll be the former.

Maybe it is just b/c everybody is bored or just getting rid of nervous energy or what but the only comparison I see goes like this....

QB's....Even though it is Tebow with the way Greg has played, both are good in their own offenses...PUSH

OL's....Both are not as good as last yr, FL's may be slightly better but are facing the better DL....PUSH

Front 7's.....McClain, Spikes, and Companies nuff said....PUSH

RB's.....Ingram, Richardson......Tebow, Demps.......PUSH

WR's.....Julio, Hanks, Maze....Cooper, Hernandez, new guy can't remember name.....PUSH

DB's.....Some give adv to FL here I DON'T...Barron ranked 1st in INT's and tied with Johnson for most break-ups in the SEC and then there is still Arenas, Woodall, Green, Sharrief....all that said Haden and the 2-deep at FL while may not have quite as good of #'s this yr they are just as talented...PUSH

Sp. Teams.....as a whole....PUSH

My prediction before the game ever starts the score will be 0-0.....after it starts should be a game for the ages and no telling who wins so why try and put a # on it????

Anybody remember the LSU fa... uh sorry... Internet Legend? I found this from his Blog :biggrin2:

Bama OL vs UF DL-Bama's OL Is GOOD. They're big, strong and mean. But Florida has speed, and they can get around the Bama Line. And because Number 8 will not play, They still have a great backup. Fla Wins

UF OL vs Bama DL- UF will again win this matchup. Simply the fact that Fla. has Jesus Chri... Tebow at QB will motivate the Fl Line to keep the big strong fast Bama DL from sacking Tebow. Now, granted, the Gators are 10th in allowed sacks in the SEC, That's 10/11, however I still think The team rallies and will not allow any this game. Fla Wins

Bama QB vs UF LB/DB- McElroy will be going up against a very good and lightning fast Secondary. Greg cannot make decisions under pressure so he just throw it to Julio and because Julio hasnt had near as many receptions this year than last. He will throw interceptions when the Secondary and LBers send in there blitzes. Fla Wins

UF QB vs Bama LB/DB
- Tim tebow. Enough Said.

Fla Wins
Bama RB vs UF LB- Mark Ingram as a big physical back and might could win the heisman. But AU held him to under 75 yards, and Fla is better than AU, Also Brandon Spikes hates Mark Ingram, and will be looking to take an eye out. Fla Wins

UF RB vs Bama LB
- Rolando McClain will not do so good against Tim tebow Because Tim Tebow is Tim Tebow, tebow tebow tim tebow tebow tebow... (half hour later)... tebow tebow tim tim, And Tim will run all over this injured LB corps. Fla Wins

Bama WR vs UF DB
Both teams will be aggresive, Julio will need a big game but he was shut down by lock down corner #7 from LSU. Patrick Petterson. The Fla. DB Were burned deep by Toliver and LaFell, who are LSU Track and Field athletes and faster than anyone in the world, this one is a no brainer. Push... LSU Wins

Final Score,0-0 everyone gets hurt, LSU goes to the MNC with Texas

Duh its so obvious LSU is going.

Real score, 31-28 Bama. :pDT_croc:

NO Real score 0-0 after all OT's. Then FLA and Bama each play one half against Texas who loses 98-3, with 7 TDs by each FLA and Bama. FLA and Bama shake each others hands with the utmost respect.

I thought even = 3 points. But, a Bama win = 3 points and a Florida win = 3 points.:conf2: Maybe it's just because it's the end of a long day, but what am I missing?

This was an interesting post. I like the match-up comparison approach compared to what Jesse does with no offense meant to Jesse. I like reading Jesse too. Thanks for taking the time to try it. RTR!

I think the biggest difference between Bama and UF will become clear during the 4th quarter. Bama has been known all year as a team who gives the most effort during the 4th quarter. UF has, for the most part, had it's games well in hand prior to the 4th quarter and have coasted to victories. During many games this season, Teboy has stayed out on the field more or less for purposes of padding his own stats and those of his team. Otherwise they could have sat on the bench and given the 2's more playing time. Hence they have rarely had to put forth a huge effort in the final minutes in order to secure the victory.
Bama, OTOH, has put forth tremendous effort during the 4th quarters this season, and several out of sheer necessity. Thus they become used to that "4th Quarter Push" so it will not be as much an effort for them as it will be for the Gators.
For this reason, and because the teams are so evenly matched in so many other areas, I'm looking for Bama to outlast the Gators and bring home the SEC trophy from Atlanta tomorrow night.

Agreed, However, Remember Mississippi State? Remember Arkansas? Remember South Carolina? Florida had to push to some victories...
