I thought we didn't go to the rim enough with the exception of the putbacks and some open court situations. I know there were some bad calls, but I don't see that as why we lost. It's tough, really tough, having only one low post scoring option - but we had several mid range opportunities that guys just passed up.

Florida gets a massive run of something like 25-5 (RTR91?) and 9 fouls and we get zilch.

Kind of hard to attack the rim w our guards when they are being shoved and held on every dribble drive attempt.
1. Home court foul advantage (see stats above that show we benefit from the same disparity when we play at Coleman).
2. Loss of our offensive focus.
3. Because of that ineffectiveness, Florida suddenly has an open court and pushes the ball to the basket on every possession.
4. Some bad calls.
You assume that numbers two and three have nothing to do with officiating.
The call that really stood out to me today that was very big was Cooper getting called for the charge when he made the layup.
Instead of shooting a free throw to complete a three point play the points were wiped off.
I didn't think the Florida player had position at all on that particular play and it hurt us.

This is a hopeless non-dialog. We have one contingent (which I belong to) saying that the officiating was insuperable. We have another contingent maintaining that we should have done enough to overcome the disparity in foul calls. Since neither contingent has resorted to name-calling, I think I'll go take a long walk in the snow and try to forget the game...
Florida started their run when Releford had to take a rest. We had a fairly limited group offensively out on the floor and Florida gained some momentum. Even when Trevor returned, we looked passive on offense, Florida turned up their defensive momentum, and we missed some shots. Jacobs is playing pretty well right now, but having only one inside scorer is tough. I agree there were some bad calls that went the way of the Gators, but I'm sorry, I just don't see the officiating as winning the game for them. It's not as if the refs reigned in a smooth offensive juggernaut that's been posting 85-90 points per game.
No, it played a factor. But we gave Florida massive amounts of CPR by shutting down our offense. We took the lead by turning them over, rebounding the ball, and flashing to the basket. After the time out, they slowed things down and made us work. Without Releford, we had no one on the court who could generate a shot, much less look for their own.
Turnovers and missed jump shots make for an awfully open court, and Florida took advantage because every one of their players forced the action.
By the way, we should all be happy as heck that Nick gave as good as he took in the post. I was afraid that Thug Young would overwhelm him, and it didn't come close to happening.
And I'm with Sip. More RO, particularly against man-to-man defense. TL is the better shooter, but he just doesn't look comfortable against man D.
Before the game I honestly thought their inside players would totally dominate this game and they didn't. I too give Jacobs and Gueye applause for their efforts today.
Earl, I agree the refs can interfere with your offensive game but, at some point you have to move on... I played in HS and can still hear my coach saying "screw the refs, just play... You cant control stupid". I do think Grant and Moore should send tape to the league but, CAG appears to be a nice guy and just take it...
It's easy to say when we're not the ones on the court. Could we have won the game despite refs - yes! Would we have won the game with decent officiating, same answer - yes!
Last week, the SEC BB officials chief admitted he could do nothing about bad officiating except by not hiring them again. IOW - nothing...
No, but the other team shooting 56 free throws to Bama's 18 (regulation) certainly justifies a great deal of the concern. This is the past 2 Saturday's that I am talking about. It's clear something is not quite right. Home teams are being given completely unfair advantages in these games-visiting teams are being given very little opportunity to be successful. If one watches and understands basketball it is very clear. Bama's style and lack of inside game accounts for some of the difference- but not what we have seen the last 2 weeks.
As much as I'd like to see us in the NCAA Tourney, we'd have to play muvh better to make it past the 1st round. We can't get to the rim, we can't hit 3's, we can't hit free throws, and we DON'T shoot 10 foot jump shots. We can't run because we can't rebound. Our extraordinary effort usually keeps us in all the games, but we seem to tire at the end. I hope we have some help coming next year. RTR
