Barrett Jones and Next Year?

Anybody know what the prevailing opinion seems to be concerning BJ coming back next year?

I'd say higher.

Jones doesn't project well as an NFL prospect at tackle or guard. But he does project well at center because of intelligence. He is widely expected to return to work on his technique at that position since Vlachos graduates.

In Sunday's article on the Jones family, his parents intimated that they were planning as if he will be coming back. Pretty much tells me what I want to know.

That's awesome. I really feel good about him coming back now.

Ummm what? I'd agree he doesn't project well as a NFL tackle, but he can EASILY play RG or C in the NFL. I'd go as far as saying if any team in the right spot in the draft could take him as a Guard they'd do it quickly. BJ is a very solid tackle, an elite Guard, and who knows yet if Center is his calling.

Because of his versatiity as much as his ability. Don't get me wrong, having him anchoring the O-line next year will be a huge plus, but as GCT said, NFL scouts don't put him any sooner than late second round right now, and as we all now, if he makes the jump to first round, that's a lot of scratch. I don't think that's an issue for him or his family, though (money); his family is preparing as if he will play next year, and that says a lot.

Don't read too much into that "interior" thing. Some notable offensive winners have been Orlando Pace (Left tackle), Chris Samuels (Left tackle), and Andre Smith (Left tackle).

I'm probably wrong, but I always thought that centers weren't generally drafted in the 1st round anyway. Therefore moving to center wouldn't benefit him much.

Winning a college award projects nothing to the NFL...just look back at some of the Heisman winners...Troy Smith, Jason White, Eric Crouch, Danny Wuerffel....it happens with every award...Another year will help him greatly

No doubt on the money on both accounts. I just disagreed with the statement that the NFL doesn't hold him in high regard as a Guard.

I'm not trying to highjack this thread, but what's the guess on our starting OL next season? I'd think it would be Cyrus K, Warmack, Jones, Arie K, and Fluker. That's some serious beef right there. Yeldon has got to love the thought of running behind that group of road graders!
