I remember hearing Coach Saban say something to the effect that they started doing this to defend the quick snap/throw stuff so many teams were doing. The D-Line doesn't have a chance to get a push and pressure the QB but if they can get hands up in a throwing lane it's just as effective. It doesn't have to be completely knocked down, just off the desired path. One of those is going to end up getting us a pick at some point because a ball is flopping through the air like a wounded duck.
