I would like to here how all of you think the NC should be decided.

I would like to see a 16 team playoff. Start the playoffs 1 week after the conference championship games. it would take 4 weeks to determine a TRUE champion. Use the top 15 Bowls to host the playoffs. Play the top seeds as close to home as possible. What the Bowls that are left let teams not in the playoffs play in them. Do away with the Bowl tie-ins. Let the left over Bowls get the best match up they can.

This way the Bowls are still important and we get a playoffs.

I'd also like to know how you would like to see a playoff's system work.

For you basketball fans, imagine the rush of March Madness but on the grander scale (to me) of football. That would be a little Heaven on Earth.

I like the idea of a small playoff, but people will still complain. They'll say, oh, you faced USC who faced nobody in the PAC-10-- or something to that effect.

People don't realize that the BCS is doing what it set out to do: find a way to get 2 teams to a title game. Beforehand, we would have Aubarn in the Sugar and OU in the Cotton and USC in the Rose-- facing OTHER teams.

Is it fair to have the 3 top teams playing OTHER teams to decide a NC? In all actuality, No. Did the BCS solve this problem? Yes. Does everyone like it? No.

4 team playoff. Keep the bowl system. It is good for college football. If the bowls can survive, and teams are available, then let them play.

IMO, there are rarely more than 4 teams a year that deserve a chance to play for the national championship at the end of the year. Take the top 4 teams, and use 2 of the BCS bowls to play the national semi-final. No. 1 plays No. 4 in the Sugar Bowl; No. 2 plays No. 3 in the Fiesta Bowl. The winners play in the championship a week or 2 later. The championship game's site will be determined much like the Super Bowl is each year. The next year the semi-finals will be played in the Orange Bowl and the Rose Bowl. If the Rose Bowl doesn't want to participate, then another bowl game will be used. All the other bowl games are played as normal.

With this system, the season is extended only 1 week further. Only 2 teams will play an extra game. Basically, its a compromise. No system is perfect, but if there's going to be a playoff, then this is the one I'd favor.

4 team playoff

Is absolutely the way to go. Cam, I like your whole scenario. Schedule the bowls to lead up to the big game. The Rose Bowl wouldn't miss it.

My idea, have eight- 12 team confereces. The SEC,ACC,BIG 12,BIG 10,and PAC 10,all go to 12 teams.Combine the BIG EAST,MOUNTAIN WEST, WAC, CONFERENCE USA,and SUNBELT by a combination of moving some teams to other conferences that don't have 12 teams (i.e. Fresno St. to the pac 10 for example) and culling some teams (i.e. Akron,Cent. Mich,UConn etc.). 8 twelve team conferences equal 96 teams.Divide the conferences into two divisions like the SEC,cut the regular season to 11 games and have the two division champs play for the conference title and the right to go into an 8 team play-off. You would end up with 16 teams play 12 games, 8 teams playing 13 games, 4 teams playing 14 games and 2 teams playing 15 games.Have each team play the other 5 in thier respective division, plus at least 3 from the other division. This would leave 3 games for interconference rivalries( USC-NOTRE DAME,ALA-OK,for example). Use the top 8 bowls for the play-offs with the championship game rotated like it is now.
Or we could just let sportswriters vote on it, since they know so much about college football.

PLAYOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

Decide the NC on the field, not in the lame minds of the media, or the coachs. The media is bias, and the coachs don't see enough games to know who did what and by how much. Their too busy with their own team to worry about anybody else. Most of them get someone else to do the voting for them, and half the time don't even know who their vote went for. We've been needing a playoff for a long time. I remember as far back as 1966 when Alabama was the only undefeated, untied team in the nation, and finished 3rd. And now 38 years later we're still facing the same situations. I know in the minds of the fat cats who run the NCAA that money and greed is what motivates them, that's why things stay the same. They know they're living high on the hog. But it boggles my mind that they don't see that a playoff would put as much or more money in their pockets than what we have now. Every sport i know of has some type of playoff, including football on the college level. Division IAA, DII, and DIII. There's no reason why Division I shouldn't have one as well.

LOL..........Well, there i go Venting again. Man, i feel better.

playoff

The answer to this subject has always seemed simple to me. Use the bowls as discussed on this post. The bottom line is the good ole boy network is still in place. Maybe a changing of the guard is in order. RTR

Playoff or BCS+1???

Which would you prefer? I know we are all at least a little biit partial to the bowls and the prestige involved, but which do you think would be better for college football: a 16 team full fledged playoff, or a 4-team BCS + 1 scenario?

I think you would get more votes for a playoff if you had listed a 6, 8 or 12 team playoff. Many people including me are opposed to a 16 team playoff, yet fully suport a 6 - 8 team playoff.

What is BCS+1?

I voted for BCS+1 instead of a 16-team playoff, but I don't really know what it is.

Here is what I wish they would do.

-Revert back to the traditional bowl tie-ins.
-After the bowls are finished, then #1 plays #2 (BCS poll) for the national title.

Why the infatuation with the championship game being one of the bowl games? I say keep them separate. My system maintains the tradition and integrity of the bowls. It also allows one more game for us and the pollsters to judge the teams. Then the national title game is called "the national title game", for crying out loud.

Another reason I like this system is because it is realistic, meaning I can realistically see how we could easily migrate to that system from where we are currently. In other words, it ain't a major overhaul, it is just a tweak. If we were to do this, then the next logical step would be to have a 4-team BCS playoff after the bowls. It would be #1 vs #4 and #2 vs #3 on the same day, then the winners play the next Saturday.

No playoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!No matter what format you use 6-8-16-32 teams, someone is going to complain, they were the next team in line ,i.e. # 17.They had beaten someone higher, therefore they should go, they would claim, as the Albarners are doing today, that their schedule was tougher or they had beaten higher ranked opponents. I like the way the system is today, the only thing the playoff's would do is make money for the gamblers. NO PLAYOFFS

I created a similar thread......

before I saw this one. Now I know why no one replied. It was old news!

Anyway, below is my proposal. rtrcam, it is much like yours, only I keep the bowls and the playoff games separate.

We need more than 16 playoff spots

I think when the regular seaon is over all teams that have won more games than they lost should enter the playoffs.
