Personally I like all the changes including sweet Caroline because I had never heard in a sports setting - never been to Fenway or Penn state. I guess you could go to a WVU game and listen to John Denver all night.

Prior to the changes I thought our game atmosphere sucked unless you were the type that didn't want anything spilled on your smoking jacket or run the risk of being jostled by a neighboring fan or had to stand up out of your seat only to go ton the bathroom and get a coke and lukewarm denny dog. The only thing that made the whole atmosphere tolerable (especially when we were losing) was the dynamic halftime shows put on by kathyrn Scott and the band (major improvement needed on that front now btw).

I am afraid you might need to stay at home next weekend. That atmosphere might be a little more than you can stand.

What do you want them to play? They're not going to play U2 or Coldplay. Watch highlight films on youtube and you'll rarely (if ever) see a video with that type of music. It's always the music that is played in BDS.

I was also at the TN game and wasn't thrilled with all the blaring music, plus it was hard to converse with anyone without shouting. There seems to be a need today for us to be entertained every moment and all this entertainment bling at a football game is just the next logical step.

I think another factor is the loooong and frequent TV timeouts. Something has to be happening in the stadium to keep us entertained while the players and coaches are standing around waiting for play to resume.

I can't say I like all the rap stuff, but the overall presentation is much better than it used to be. I remember 15-20 years ago, pre-game, the band would come out and do their routine and then stand there silently for about 5 minutes until the team ran out on the field. They'd get the crowd good and loud and we'd all go to sleep waiting for them to come out and start the game. During TV timeouts, the stadium would get eerily quiet, with maybe the PA announcer reading scores. It was only made worse years later by playing commercials during the TV timeouts. It may be a little loud, and I really didn't get Sweet Caroline, but it's a much more polished presentation.

I think the gameday experience as a whole is truly an awesome experience! They do play music that I probably wouldn't really listen to in my truck but they are upbeat "feel good" songs that get the crowd and the players pumped! That's what its all about and I love every minute of it all. The songs are from a variety of genres so there is bound to be something you like. ROLL TIDE ROLL... Don't change a thing!!

For me, personally, it's not so much the choice of songs as it is I don't like copying what other schools are doing. We did it with Rammer Jammer and managed to make it our own, but other than that I would rather we lead than follow. I love music being played. I don't mind the rap. I enjoy Coach Cochran screaming at us. I like anything that gets the crowd "up."

I would just rather we be original. Songs like Sweet Caroline and Buttercup, for example, are already well-identified with other programs. I'd rather we adopt our own particular songs.

That is all.

I like almost every bit of what's produced for games, especially the music selections. If I were to complain, I'd pick at the video and music leading up to the team entering the field -- it's not near as exciting and doesn't seem to pump up the crowd near as much as the entrance videos/music used over the past few years. Very anticlimactic this year if you ask me...

All you complainers please give me your tickets because it doesn't bother me!

Anything to help our crowd wake up and actually cheer. I'm tired of hearing fans that want to "converse" during the game complain, this is not a country club, it's a football game. Get up and cheer. I think we need even more chants and stuff. We need more things to get the crowd up almost non-stop when the visitors have the ball. There were times in the first half of the UT game that it sound like it was dead quiet on TV, which just made me angry.

I wish I could afford season tickets; I would lose my voice every weekend. I'm so tired of hearing silence from our crowd and then watching a puny team like BSU have a crowd that makes non-stop noise. Shoot, even Auburn is better at it then we are and that is sad because we have a whole lot more to cheer about.

Old School meet New School. Man you can tell who the old timers are!
Those of us who have actually "been there" before like to act like it. Nothing wrong with that.

And those of you who like to complain about the fans that have supported the program for decades, don't fear. They'll eventually age out and then the mantle of supporting the program will fall to you. You going to open your pockets and fork out the big dough? Start now. Want to get your butts in the seats and scream your heads off? Do it. Budget your money and your time and put it where your mouth is.

Until such time, you may want to accept the fact that every fan has an opinion and their own way of wanting to enjoy Alabama games. For what it's worth, the atmosphere inside BDS is so many light years ahead of where it was when I was a student, it's almost like it's a completely different stadium (not just the same one that's been added onto).

It's electric in BDS. Could it be better? Absolutely. But don't go disparaging the old-timers who have helped fund and support this program since before you were born.

Amen to this. I was there 77-81, and it is so much different and better. It was good then too, but in a 70's way!

Amen #2. I've been a season ticket holder for 21 seasons. I've been there for the good and the bad. I cheer, especially for great football plays. On Saturday, the crowd did it's job in the 1st quarter, but the team wasn't doing theirs so I understand why the crowd would fizzle a bit. There were several aggravated fans around me based on the teams 1st half performance against UT.

Talking about original - - Ask Florida who they copied for their pre game show- (us). Except for the weak presentation by the cheerleaders at the middle of the field before the beginning of the game I feel the whole process is great. Some times too loud but great. What I dislike strongly is doing the wave when the score is 6-3 or 6-6 and we are fighting for our lives.
I have also noticed that the music is used at times to drown out the visiting band when going to or coming off the field. So, I like that part.
But please do not set at home and make comments about what is going on in the stadium.
By the way, I am 64 years old and the loudest person in the JJ section.

I'd be willing to bet that most of those who don't like the music and stuff are also the same ones who don't like standing and yelling at a football game.

Me? I like it. I like the videos, most of the music, Coach Cochran - love that, the "reminders" to the crowd to make noise when they're supposed to, etc.

As for the music choices, the less country music the better. :) Sweet Caroline is ok, only because most of the stadium seems to get involved. I'm with Staci on this, in that I'd rather not copy something that's already popular, but that's just how it works. I still don't get Dixieland Delight - where the heck did that come from?

It's all about mood and atmosphere, people. BDS needs to be loud and rocking on gameday. The music, videos, and interaction is designed to get the crowd pumped and and ready to be a part of the game, as well as feeding the players' energy. You do that with Hard Rock and Rap music. Who the heck listens to country or pop music to get amped up for a game?

Speaking of copying things. I went to an OU game in Norman last year and when their intro started I thought I was in BDS. I looked up at their jumbotron to see Stoops leading the team through the hallways while the anticipation built and eventually out the tunnel to "Thunderstruck".

Since this entire thread has turned into a complaint thread I would like to register mine; our band. I absolutely love bands and I love our Million Dollar Band, but... Do we always have to have some theme like paying tribute to some obscure collection of 1920's show tunes, Elton John, Waltz music, or something else like that? :conf2: I wish Dr Ozzello would save all that stuff for competitions and just play stuff the crowd could enjoy during halftime. Maybe it's just me, but when I look around our stadium I don't see a bunch of Elton John fans. Oh, one more thing, does Dr. Ozzello know that the stadium has 4 sides? The TN band managed to put on a show that entertained people in every section on every side of the stadium. Can we not do that?

Flame away.
