Got me a 7 point last evening and a doe last week. Kaboom! Now there is tenderloin and burger meat in the freezer. Going back on Sunday for the last week of the season. :biggrin:

The wife once asked me why it was that I went hunting and I explained that all that protein wandering around unattended in the woods really bothered me.........

Cool! Sounds like you are going to have a party! Best shot I made was from around sixty yards on a doe. It was a clean shot, and we had venison for a while.

Always good to hear from hunters on the board. I got three this year. Two with the bow, and one with a rifle. Freezer is full of smoked sausage, tenderloin, roasts, and ground meat. Yum!

I hunted a good 8 pt. for over a month. Saw him three times and just couldn't get on him. He'll be a real brute next year!

If you were...

In a tree in northwest AL this afternoon, you were taking a ride on one wild pony. 30 feet up a tree with a 30 MPH wind is not my idea of sane hunting. Killed two within the last week, including a 125 class 8-point. Hope season finds you guys finishing strong (like the Tide in recruiting).

Got a new place scoped out near where I usually go. It's down in a bottom that's all covered up in scrapes, rubs and tracks. Between that and my little greenfield I hope to get another one or so before the end of season.

The new rifle this year is a Winchester Featherweight in 30-06. A very effective tool I must say.

Down here near Tuskeegee the deer are not too large, something in the 125 to 150 pound range, but there are a lot of them. They're sleek and fit and do taste good.

Will post some of my fave recipies on grillin' and chillin'. :biggrin:

Congratulations. I got my annual elk in the Fall. It just takes one to feed my family for a year.

One of these days, I'll figure out how to tan the hide properly. I tried to do that for the first time last year, spread it out and covered it with rock salt. It rotted anyhow and became useless.

piglet: i'm dying to go elk hunting again. got a 5x5 on public land in colorado in '96. might go back in october. best meat i've ever eaten!!
