I happened to meet and spend some time with Jim Nantz a few years ago...he is one class person. We should all wish our children could be as classy as he is...not to mention that he is incredibly wealthy as a result of his talent and hard work.

On the analyst end of things, can Gary Danielson win worst and best? His insights are very often timely and accurate. Since he is a Purdue graduate, the story about engineers comes to mind. Yes, I'm an engineer. Anyway, what does an engineer use for birth control? Their personality. This certainly applies to Gary.

I strongly resemble..........no, wait............strongly resent that remark. Right............"resent" is the right word. Not "resemble". I think.

Yesterday I could not spell "engineer". Today I are one.

Said no API grad ever.

I really like Jim Nantz...great voice, cool house, etc....but isn't he still paying his ex-about a million dollars a year for a long time affair? Great announcer, and his personal life is really none of my business, but that's not cool...

Not quite that much money...and the circumstances are not that simple. He actually is a man of faith...and yet he's still human...just like King David...and me...and you.

This is just what I read....didn't mean to offend. Again, his personal life should be none of our business...

Worst:
Dan Dierdorf - Remember him preaching to the Bama fans during the 1990 Sugar Bowl about Bill Curry?
Todd Christensen - I think he was the color analyst during the 1991 Fiesta Bowl
Bill Walton
Bob Griese
Brian Griese

I used to like Bill Walton. His commentary during the 1997 NBA finals is legendary. "Gotta foul, Gotta foul! Karl Malone, you gotta foul! Karl Malone, what are you doing?!" :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Keith Jackson was the best

In his prime, no one was better than Keith Jackson. He probably should have retired 2-3 years sooner than he did but otherwise he was the best. I thought he worked better with Frank Broyles than he did with Bob Griese.

On the radio I thought John Forney was as good as anyone I've ever heard at play-by-play. Paul Kennedy was very good too. Eli is ok but I don't enjoy him as much as I did Forney and Kennedy.

I haven't posted in a while, but I'm going to briefly weigh in on this -- in part to hold myself accountable a year from now, LOL.

There are too many I don't like to name all their names, but I'm going to mention a couple in particular: either Griese, Bob or Brian. I felt like Bob had skin in the game somehow in the 1993 Sugar Bowl, Bama against Miami, and I've never liked him since. Never been wild about Brent Musberger, even with his "you are looking live" catchphrase.

Number one on my hit-list is Danny Kannell, partly because I think most of his commentary is a persona he's trying to create. I don't think he even means half the things he says; I think he's a troll 24-7.

I have always liked Herbstreit and I still do, but I think after he did a great job forever of not showing a bias, it's starting to wear off, both with Ohio State and with Clemson (where he has a son or sons). I still like him, though. Corso has grown on me in his old age, and mine, kind of like a novelty act after he made all Alabama fans everywhere mad with the "high school kids" crack back in 1990.

No question in my opinion that Keith Jackson was the best -- or at least my favorite -- to call a college game, and Al Michaels is my favorite in NFL broadcasting. I seem to be in the minority, but I like Joe Buck and Troy Aikman.

If I could get my pick of college football color guys to do all Alabama games, it would be Todd Blackledge. I have always thought he was good and very fair.

Keith Jackson will always be my favorite. He was the best.

Growing up in Georgia, I was compelled to listen to Munson. His colorful way of calling a game was awesome.

I also liked Howard Cosell. His back and forth with Ali is classic.

Gary Danielson is in limbo. One minute he is great and the next he is worthy of the mute button.

Beth Mowins and Holly Rowe both get on my nerves. I would rather run through the cactus field in flip flops versus listen to either of them.

The Carey family are all great announcers in baseball. I miss hearing Skip in his pregame show get frustrated when a caller would ask about what qualified for a save situation. Skip, Ernie, Pete, and Don all spoiled me as a listener.

Of the actual football announcers, my favorite college analyst is Danielson hands down. For the NFL, it's Cris Collinsworth. They can both be a little arrogant, but they are the most prepared by far in my opinion. I thought Romo was really good two years ago, but some of the announcing I heard from his this past season was bad. Aikman is terribly prepared in my opinion. For college, Herbstreit and Klatt are a close second to Danielson and the rest are just there.

As for the play-by-play guys, Nessler is probably the best but to me he is a far cry from Ron Franklin or Keith Jackson. Sean McDonough is pretty good too. I don't enjoy listening to Fowler or Gus Johnson. In the NFL, Al Michaels has become for me what Pat Summerall was when I was a kid; the voice I think of for NFL football. I like Nantz as well, but Joe Buck is not for me.

The MNF crew is unbelievably bad. It's acutally sad that the premier weekly game of the NFL has been reduced to what it is.

Dave's dad, Bob, was no slouch either. NBA on TNT was built on him and Hubie Brown

Way back in the old days (circa mid 80's) when TV broadcast were still in the wild on satellite, I messed up and watched the raw broadcast of CBS sports carrying Alabama and I think Penn State with Brent Mussburger and it was like seeing the Wizard of Oz behind the Green Curtain. What you used to think was inspired play by play was scripted talking points over the course of a whole game. Like discovering Saturday Morning Wrestling wasn't real. ;)
