As far as toughness and shear execusion of an offense, Steadman Shealy would be very very hard to beat. His performance in the rain at LSU in 1979 was one gutty play after another. As far as I remeber, he never made a mistake that beat us and he played hurt his junior and senior years.

But my Dad (1926-1989) always said Harry Gilmer was the greatest player he ever saw (totally unstopable at times); and Joe Willy would be very hard to vote against.

It's Namath. There will never be another like him. Great runner (pre-injury). Could fake it like a magician. Understood the game. Field general. Man, could he throw the deep ball! Athletic enough to play DB if necessary. Dunks a basketball. Great baseball and basketball star. They think Tebow's superman?

Tebow should win the Heisman though.

Steadman Shealy is probably my all time favorite QB,If I remember correctly, that LSU game was a troplical storm or something as it rained hard, straight down the entire game in Baton Rouge, I think Bama won 7-0

I went to HS with Ken 'Happy feet' Coley, and I loved Don Jacobs, as that was a golden time in Crimson Tide football.

Recent? Jamarcus Russell. I know a lot of folks didn't respect Jamarcus, including LSU fans...but nobody can say he wasn't talented, and nobody can say he wasn't clutch. Kid was a winner at LSU...and fun to watch.

For you guys, it's a tougher question. As I peruse the names on your lists...I'm awed. Bart Starr, Joe Namath, Snake Stabler...football LEGENDS!!
