Bielema has always struck me as rather obnoxious but I wouldn't pay millions for a football coach who didn't show up with the attitude that he was going to build a program that would whip everyone else.
Saban said something to the effect that he came to win championships. The difference was, unlike Brett and Les, he didn't single out a particular team. Odd that these guys feel like that they have to proclaim that they're going to beat Bama, the king of the hill...

Like his attitude but not his choice of words. Why paint a bulls eye on your back and add to the pressure by implying you will accomplish more than you can probably live up to? He seems to have a lot to learn. I think the SEC will see that he does.

There's nothing wrong with confidence. Saying you came to win the SEC title is great. However implying that all the teams in the SEC are insignificant other than Bama, as well as trying to make an "objective" comparison of your record against Saban's ("he can't compare"), is ridiculous and stupid.

He's the underdog. He knows he needs to energize a deflated fan base and get his players bought in. So he doesn't come in and tip toe through the tulips. He calls out the biggest dog in the yard. And if he loses? So what. Everyone expected him to lose. But if he wins vs Bama....now he's got some huge momentum. It's a no lose for CBB.

And if he starts to win consistently in the SEC he'll flip that underdog mess around and start preaching expectations.

Houston Nutt proved you can win at Arkansas....he just wasn't nearly as good at the sustaining as he was at the upset special.

On a side note....I think he left Wisconsin over some of the inane rules the B1G has about coaches pay and such. Besides....it won't be long before the "Saban will retire before you graduate" stuff starts if it hasn't already. If I was the other 13 SEC schools I'd be preaching that to middle schoolers now and I'd be looking to put myself into position to try and jump all over Bama when CNS leaves. There's always a drop off when a long term coach retires, I don't care who you are.

I think Ark/CBB are a good fit and I think CBB is probably playing things about right but that's just me.

The MSU comparison was the dumbest thing he said. Basically what he was saying is that, if he can do better at MSU than CNS, then he can do better in the SEC. That's so stupid it almost seems idiotic. Saban has been on fire in college ball since he left MSU. Bielma, not so much...

Sounds like he's the greatest coach in college football history but he's the only one who knows it right now.
Is my serenity supposed to be shaken? First that little North Korean feller and now this.

After reading this article..All I can tell Hog Fans..Is to keep "Smiling"..Cause you fired one crazy HC & hired another one..I like a confident HC..Dude is crazy for saying stuff like this..Tick off Coach Saban & rest of the SEC..Before you even play an SEC game..Dude..Not smart at all..

"The reason the SEC is talked about all the time is one team, because of their dominance. But I didn't come here to play Alabama. I came here to beat Alabama.
"You can take Saban's record when he was at Michigan State and when he was a coach in the Big Ten and put it against mine, and he can't compare."

Here's The Link..CLICK ME
Did he say that in front of a booster group?

My, my, my. I guess he gets points for making a lot of people not like him in very few words. If I was a fan of that program, I'd be wishing he would shut up. Saying you intend to take it to the current champion is what all coaches should be aiming for, so that is what it is. Publicly showing contempt and disrespect for Florida, A&M, USCe, and LSU in a year where you play them all, and likely will be an underdog in at least 3 of 4, is just dumb, whether you are trying to fire up the fan base or not. The teams that recruit most directly against him (A&M, LSU) already had an incentive to make his program look inept.

Maybe you don't get the kind of media attention to every comment in the B1G that you do in the SEC, but wow. If I was the Arky AD, I'd tell him to shut up and let his play do the talking.

From what I understand now, he has tweeted that those statements were intended as a joke in response to a question from a fan. That's cool. But, IMO, a joke is only truly appreciated when it is understood by everyone involved that it is a joke. Obviously, this was not made clear or suggested by CBB when it was said. And even then, some jokes are sometimes still not appreciated.

Roll Saban Tsunami, Roll!

No big deal here. What do we expect him to say, "Well, I'm going to try real hard but what ever happens, happens." Not likely. He is just trying to get the fan base excited. Did he choose his words wisely? No, but it's not the first time a football coach has done that.

Well, I for one think it was a wonderful statement! What better way to start off your SEC coaching career than to proclaim yourself to be better than best there is.

I can't wait to hear his excuses come late November when he can't back up his big talk with action. Looking at their schedule I see 5-6 losses right off the bat, not including their spring game. Maybe he should focus on the winnable games like Samford or Awbren:D

The last time Arkansas beat Bama Bielema's freshman recruiting class was in 6th grade.
Interesting fact.

All in all, he's just saying what the fan base wants to hear. Deep down he may not even believe it himself.

I don't have any problem with the man's bravado. I will say that I do not believe for a moment that Nick Saban would spout off like that, but, to each his own.

I agree with the stated sentiment on this thread that Bielema thinks SEC=Alabama. Lest we forget, the SEC crystal football run = Florida, LSU, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Alabama, Alabama. 3 of the 7 are ours. How many crystal footballs does Bielema have? Hmmmm? I thought so.

He will learn sooner or later that, in the SEC, it is quite unwise for one to allow his mouth to write a check that his @$$ cannot cash.

If you cast a light on both from the right direction, they cast a long shadow. ;)

Bielma is like the gunman come to town wanting to make a name for himself.
Only problem seems to be a grizzled Sheriff, with a tough Posse.

Note: Bielma has now been measured by the undertaker.
He can join the long list of former SEC coaches residing at 'Boot Hill'.

The great coaches don't say stuff like that. The coaches that do, end up fired, on probation, or both
