The BIG 10 conference with 12 teams.

The BIG 12 conference with 10 teams.

Go figure when it comes to names.

I think what's hilarious about this whole thing - as someone noted on the conference count earlier - the Big Ten has 12 and the Big 12 has ten.

Now you ALL KNOW that if that was the Southern USA doing something that lame, they'd say it was proof of how BACKWARDS we are. So what is this proof of? That Yankees and Texans can't do math?

Have these people never heard of a focus group? A trial balloon? They have not asked me but here are a few suggetions.

Big MAC North and Big PAC West.

1. Big Easterly and Big fly-over-country divisions.

2. Big Ego and Big Self-esteem divisions.

3. Big Five and Big Six divisions (since they can't count already.)

4. North by Northwest and West by Midwest divisons.

5. Big East and West of them other people divisions.

6. Big East 6 and Big PAC 6 West divisions.

Given how the Big Ten [sic] operates, they'd probably choose Division 1 and Division A.
Funny, it's like they could have also gone with Winners and Champs, or Heismans and Hopefuls, or some other equally lame pretentious set of names. Don't overly care, but thought it was amusing and don't really like that they had to dual name all their awards to go with the legends and leaders, by having a bunch of truly historic players tagged to a bunch of recent players. Wonder if they redo the L&L divisions, are they going to relook the awards too?

"Legends and Leaders" are the kind of division names that would be fitting for divisions of grade-school kids.

Delaney gets some credit for not being stubborn; he's apparently willing to change directions. Still, it's stunning that he failed to appreciate how goofy those names would make the Big Ten appear. And just think... This is the guy some feel will eventually be the catalyst for mega-conference expansion. I don't think so. His credibility takes a big hit.

I am curious as to why Delaney says that he has had experience with the development of divisions. Has he ever been the commissioner of a league that has split into divisions? If not, why does he say that he's had experience with that?

Why doesn't he just say "look, this is the first time we've ever done this and apparently we screwed up."

He has been the commissioner of the Ohio Valley, but they don't have divisions.

That statement caused me to shake my head also. What does experience with splitting into divisions have to do with names? I mean, like I just named my two twin boys Leader and Legend and my excuse is that I have named my three other children too? Just plain weird.
