It was always the early game.
Actually no it was "always'" the early game. It was TBD right up until the top 4 was announced. Then the times were announced and I even commented on it in the playoff thread. Then it was flipped 30 minutes later. I looked and no way I can prove it now.

Well I care and I'm excited.

In a few months most of us will be DYING to watch a CFB game.

Here we have like 2.5 weeks where there is at least one game on almost everyday and on paper most will be relatively even matchups among teams with winning records or at least no teams with losing records...lol

Here are the more interesting Non-CFBP matchups to me:

Dec 21st:
Frisco Bowl - UTSA (12-1) vs. San Diego State (11-2) - Two Quality 11+ Win teams

Dec 28th:
Birmingham Bowl - Houston (11-2) vs. Auburn 6-6) - Get to watch AU Lose...Hopefully

Holiday Bowl - UCLA (8-4) vs. NC State (9-3) - Always a Great Bowl for as long as I can Remember

Dec 29th:
Cheez-It Bowl - Clemson (9-3) vs. Iowa State (7-5) - Watch Dabo Lose...Hopefully

Alamo Bowl - Oklahoma (10-2) vs. Oregon (10-3) - Top 15 teams with Interim HC's

Dec 30th:
Peach Bowl - Michigan State (10-2) vs. Pittsburgh (11-2) - Top 15 teams w/ Contrasting Styles

Jan 1st:
Fiesta Bowl - Notre Dame (11-1) vs. Oklahoma State(11-2) - Watch Mullet CRUSH these Paper Tigers

Rose Bowl - Ohio State (10-2) vs. Utah (10-3) - Could be the Game of the Day

Sugar Bowl - Ole Miss (10-2) vs. Baylor (11-2) - Could also be the Game of the Day

There should be a LOT of entertainment to be had over the Holidays!!!

Auburn in the Birmingham Bowl again! Hahahaha. This makes me so happy. They’re going to get run out on a rail by Houston too. But, hey, at least they get to try out UAB’s new stadium

I'm with some of you because I'll definitely check out some of these games. The only thing that will make me turn the channel is too much replay, rules "experts", and ridiculous targeting interpretations. Otherwise, I'll check out some bowls just like always. There's only been two or three bowls each year that "matter" for the championship any way, so I don't know why some people like to say the bowls don't matter any more. They've never mattered. They just reward kids for a decent season and give college football fans something to watch during the holidays.

If @TexasBama can hook me up with some cheap Houston gear then I might go to it and just talk about "How this is a great bowl", ask "why is the Iron Bowl not played in this great venue", "This is a top notch experience", and "Birmingham is a great city to have a bowl" in the middle of Auburn fans for the entire game.

The Auburn-Houston game will help to give us an indication as to how strong or how weak the AAC is and thus show what we can expect from Cincinnati.
Depending on the motivation of each team and who actually plays. It’s a catch-22 with the SEC. Usually, the middle to lower SEC teams play higher ranked teams.

I hate the Barn like everyone else but if they lose (which is likely) it will be used to continue to push the G5 belong at the big table narrative. Just like when they lost to an undefeated UCF.

Bama vs Cincy is the early game because, no matter what they say in front of the cameras, behind the scenes even ESPN knows it should not be a fair matchup. A P5 vs G5 playoff game will draw less eyeballs then Michigan vs UGA.

I'm so sick and tired of these semi-final games being played on NYE. I don't care about their "excuse" for why, it sucks. At least we are the early game so we can still do most of our family NYE traditions once it is over (maybe even by halftime ;)).

Man, it's funny what games remind you.

Purdue is playing Tennessee. My immediate thought was to the 1979 Bluebonnet Bowl that matched those two teams in what was the final CFB game of the 1970s. Purdue jumped out to a 21-0 lead and then gave up 22 points to fall behind with less then 4 minutes left - and then drove down the field to score the winning TD. I got to stay up past midnight (I'm guessing the game ended around 10 pm in the central time zone), and my Dad made a BIG DEAL about it because it was the first time I'd know a knew decade had flipped (yes, I know, don't argue about the decade thing).

I didn't realize until today that that's the only time those two teams ever played. And while I was a fan who had seen games before, all I recall was really liking the game and thinking it was exciting in my ten-year old way.

Not complaining - but we HAVE lost that. Glad we have undisputed champions now but we did lose something special, too.

I remember my first ever game in person was The Hall of Fame Bowl at Legion Field in 84. Kentucky vs Wisconsin. I went with my dad and grandfather. We had a blast. I remember Kentucky winning in the final few minutes and it being electric in there. You are correct we definitely lost something with the way things are now. These bowl games mean nothing now and a lot of players will sit out. I cannot even imagine a player sitting in those days.

I'm sure the Peach Bowl is really thrilled. That has to be one of the worst matchups that bowl has ever drawn. No local team's to even care about watching.
My SIL is a Sparty grad, so he's excited his team is playing this close to home. If anyone with Chik-fil-A/Peach Bowl tickets wants to dispose of a few ducats...
