Fanney is OFF THE TEAM but still in school trying to graduate this summer so he can transfer with one year of eligibility left and NOT have to sit out a year.
The first part of that was directly from Coach Saban at his press conference today...the second part is what I'm hearing as the reason he hasn't left school yet.
If he transfers to DII, such as UNA, he wouldn't have to sit out. I was assuming he was trying to finish up and go ahead and graduate at UA this summer to get that degree. There is generally a 'residency' requirement at a school to graduate, where a certain percentage of your final classes have to be at the college you graduate from. If he finishes at UA, he could get enrolled for the at UNA in grad classes for the Fall.
It would be the difference in a couple of classes at UA this summer versus taking several semesters of 'extra' classes to fill that residency requirement, at UNA. If anyone has ever transferred a few classes short of graduation, they may know of exceptions being given, but I know I've seen this 'residency' requirement laid out in the catalog.
