There's nothing to back up the statement. If he was hurting the same knee, or the same shoulder, or the same whatever, there would be more basis to that statement IMO.
As Terry alluded to, there is something to base such statements on--several reports that Brodie doesn't work out like he should; which has led to some (not all of course) of his injuries. Another 20 to 25 pounds of muscle on his frame would greatly increase his durability. The only question is, will he be willing to do what it takes to get it.

Personally, I don't expect to see MG back next season. As far as that goes...I don't see SP being in the #2 slot either. Crazier things have happened.
What's the scoop on MG? Is his back injury more serious than publicized? Like others, I wouldn't expect him to transfer again; at least not to a Div. IA school. Do you really think one of the new kids will learn the offense well enough to make it to #2? I would think Spencer's experience alone would give him a considerable leg-up.

REHILIBATION??? J++++ C++++.... Spend a few bucks and get a copy of "Hooked on Phonics". With our Offensive Line we need a QB who can scramble. DUH...if we want a cripple at QB just bring back Joe Willie.

ACL's don't strengthen with workouts I'm pretty sure.

More importantly about my favorite player, a doctor my friend talked to said Castille's injury is REALLY bad. I know everyone said the surgery went fine but I am guessing it takes him a while to come back which sucks.

True...

ACL grafts don't get stronger through exercise - you just strengthen the surrounding muscles and keep blood flowing to the joint, which helps the graft regenerate a blood supply of its own and become more "ligamentized." They now realize that a moving, exercised joint heals more quickly, and with more ROM, than one that's immobilized. I say that with my ice pack on my left shoulder... :) What Terry said earlier was correct. A lot of people tried to get the point across that more time should be spent preparing a backup QB. However, that's water under the bridge. I understand why the risk was undertaken...

QUOTE]

that may be true, but anyone who has suffered the same injury knows that one of the primary pieces of advice that doctors and therapists give is that strengthening the muscles around the knee will protect more against further injuries. muscle strength isn't all about weight lifting, it's also about weight and stress bearing.

brodie's a twig. and even with a "slight" frame, at 6'3", it's absurd that he's not at least in the 215 range. it doesn't take much to believe that he's not much of weight room warrior, and when you're built like a basketball player, and you play football, then you need to make weightlifting and weight management a priority. if you get injured or sick as brodie has over the past few years, you've simply got to work that much harder at it...and he obviously doesn't.

so, it's totally reasonable to expect brodie to get smooshed like a banana every season. it's happened every season since he was a senior in high school. that, my friends, qualifies as a propensity to sustain season-ending injuries. he's clearly tough as a railroad tie, but he can only endure so much.

that being said, we MUST have a backup plan.

I want to make one thing perfectly clear. I am and always have been a 1000% Brodie Croyle fan. That being said, I am however, not stuck with my head in the sand. I watched our QB position this year/last year as we all did.

Our # 2 out of Miami is down with injuries. Spencer seems to have lost his ability to make the pass on a needed and consistent basis. Our # 1 QB was down for the second time. If he stays healthy the next couple of years, we all celebrate with great wins. (I know, I know I am preaching to the choir).

Duuuuh..We need a backup that can "PLAY", not practice with the team in spring training, in this league.

That tells me we need to bring someone along and FAST!!!

Who?????

The new recruit from California, Jimmy Barnes at 6-4/225 rated 4*'s by some, seems to fit the situation/solution. He is tall and carries some weight. Maybe he can take a few hits from these 300+ pounders that have been finding our QB's on a regular basis. (Heaven forbid that our OL stop that from happening, but I will not go there-this is on QB's).

Does anyone know about his high school game, mental ability to pick up a new offense, arm strength, scrambling, etc???

:biga:    :biga:

And if anyone responds *'s don't matter, let me say in advance @#$% &^% and stay out of my thread.

I'm just tired of QB's being touted as the best thing to hit the Capstone since Kenny Stabler, only to have injuries, coaching failures or poor play lead to disappointment. Freddie Kitchens. Tyler Watts. Brodie Croyle. I'm proud of all three of these men, because they played their hearts out for Alabama.

Who was the last Alabama QB drafted above the fourth round to the NFL, and who actually played more than one or two seasons?

What we need is another unheralded, below-the-radar, one-star kid who comes in and wins an SEC championship with leadership, smarts and pure guts.

Another Andrew Zow.

Well apparently you do have your head in the sand. The Alabama offensive line gave up less sacks than any other SEC team.

SACKS AGAINST G Sacks Yards
---------------------------------------
1. Alabama............. 11 13 102
2. Florida............. 11 14 101
Arkansas............ 11 14 113
4. Tennessee........... 12 16 101
Auburn.............. 12 16 121
6. South Carolina...... 11 20 152
Georgia............. 11 20 151
8. Mississippi State... 11 22 159
9. Kentucky............ 11 23 124
Ole Miss............ 11 23 160
11.LSU................. 11 28 212
12.Vanderbilt.......... 11 33 242

Also Pennington having no Spring Practice, very little fall practice, and small amount of backup work prior to Brodie's injury ahs played well, and improved each week. After all the Tide was 3-3 with him as a starter and he lead the team to a bowl birth when others were saying the season was over after the SC game. Losses to Tennessee and Auburn were close games, and the LSU debacle. If he had won those 3 games would ya'll still be bashing him? Hey I have never made a start as an SEC QB, so I cant criticize him too much, maybe some others should consider that also.

As for MG. Who knows, the offense was VERY vanilla at Arkansas, and against SC they tried too hard to change the gameplan. MG was thinking too much before throwing, as Brodie did in some cases last year. But I guess we can criticize him for two games because after all we have all been a starting QB infront of 83,818 screaming fans.

This statistic is misleading. Alabama attempted fewer passes after losing Croyle in Game 3. A better statistic indicating the OL's performance would be the attempts-per-sack ratio. Alabama (17.3) ranked fifth, behind Florida (26.3), Arkansas (20.4), Tennessee (21.6) and Auburn (18.3). Not bad, but not good, either.

Your comment regarding his head in the sand might be a little harsh, considering your use of a misleading statistic to make your point.

Thank you for digging up the stats. I thought anyone wanting to post comments/having watched games, etc. this past season would know in the back of their mind that that was true, obiviously not. (When do we at Alabama settle for middle of the pact as ok??????????).

RollTideinGa

No one, including myself, is attempting to "Bash" anyone. We are discussing facts as we see them. Where you see them differently do not consider it bashing, rather, differing opinions. Doing that will make board discussions more meaningful. Barring that keep your opinions to yourself if they differ from mine.....don't like that do you???...neither do I.

Let's go on.

Does anyone know the skinny on Jimmy Barnes???

what's wrong with this post? everyone's aware that brodie's not the most durable player. maybe it's his body type, maybe it's luck. whatever it is, he gets hurt a lot. there's nothing wrong with this kind of truthful statement.
I hope the Staff has learned what happens when you don't have a back up ready to play if a starter goes down. It was great to watch Brodie play and I doubt that we would be were we are if he doesn't go down. However, this has happened before in the history of the Crimson Tide. In 1984 under Perkins had given all the snaps to Kerry Goode, a running back, and when he is injured against Boston College in the 2nd half after a GREAT 1st half, our season was over, we go 5-6. There was no back up. I know that Brodie needed all the snaps, it was said, but we saw what happen when there is no back up ready.
During the Coach's time, the 1st team played the first two series and then the second team played two series, that way there was a back up usually ready.

I hope the staff lets another QB get ready in case Brodie goes down again.

Classic drop back passer. Good height, speed and has a strong field presence. According to a few who live on the West Coast and have seen him play in person one of his strongest attributes is his vision of the field. His high school offensive scheme is a complicated one...especially when compared to other HS's.

As to MG, my worries are all related to his back injuries. I hope he'll be able to make it back on the field but with disc problems, etc. it isn't a given. Is it the same situation we've seen with AC the past two seasons? I don't think so at this point...but, I don't have a lot of confidence right now it'll be something he can fully recover from.
