Buyers remorse for Freeze?

Freeze should be judged on the team's performance this year because of his bravado and near-taunting in his introduction presser. Anyone listening to that would think the hard part - hiring him - was done and the details and the winning is just a formality. But his recent tone is a lot more about blaming the lack of star players and misunderstanding calls.

This is probably a worse dumpster fire than what Chizik left them with after the 2012 season
it probably is, because people tend to forget that Auburn themselves were not really a bad team in 2012. I've noted it on here about a dozen times, but I would say the 2012 Auburn team was not as bad as their record, and the 2013 team was not as good as their record. They were more in between both years, but Gene brought pessimism and Gus brought Hope.

The talent deficit definitely hurts but there’s something to be said about working with what you have rather than what you would prefer to have, and we’re not doing that.
Oh trust me, I get that part of it, but an SEC team can only have so many players on the roster where the coach's "coaching" has to make up the talent deficit to compete in this conference. I'm not making excuses for Freeze, but I know he hasn't lucked into the reputation of an offensive mind among his peers and I watched what type of offense he can put on the field when he has talent.

I’m not sure he’s still quite the offensive mind he thinks he is. He likes to say he brought the RPO to the SEC, which he did, but that was over a decade ago. I think defensive coordinators have caught up to him. Liberty is undefeated and averaging 10 more points a game this year vs last. I understand he doesn’t have the most talented roster but when I watch them it seems like there’s more to the problem that just talent. They seem confused and disorganized, that’s a coaching issue in my book.

Those posting about abruun's 'talent deficiency' need to consider what Sleaze did in the transfer portal - AU is among most talented teams in 2023:11798809.png

I'm NOT suggesting the BCR is the be-all, end-all, but it shows that there IS talent on that team - more than most they will face during the regular season - despite what some want to claim.

auburn fans would rather believe the lack of talent is the issue than blame the absence of development, poor/inconsistent play calling and coaching on the righteous reverend and his stellar staff.

I think a lot stems from their lack of generating offense and having a reliable QB. They are very predictable depending on which QB is in the game. I think we are going to crush them when we play.

The man is only one win away from being the Second Coming.
But it will likely be a very tall mountain to climb if things continue as they have thus far this year. Then he will have the dreadful prospect of going to a House of Horrors far greater than J-H next year: BDS, where AU is 1-7, losing by an average of 28 for the last 15 years.

Doesn’t tell the whole story. We also have big holes and the spots that do have talent are thin and have been made thinner by injury.

Think about how Gus always had top 10 classes but NEVER ANY FREAKING LINEMEN dang it lol.

Who cares what happens in Tuscaloosa? We play them in Auburn this year and will likely be hanging on for dear life against an Auburn team with nothing left to lose with a raucous crowd behind them.

Auburn is not a good team. But that doesn't mean they won't give us a fight, especially if we only play half of the game. Beating us would make their season.

Alabama trailed a decent-good but not nearly great UT team by 13 at home at the half, then went on a 27-0 run in the 2nd half.

They were tied with a bad USF team 3-3 at the half.

They beat a bad Ark team by 3 at home.

Nothing with this team would be a surprise. But to their credit, they do typically win.

I care. This thread began about the AU-Freeze relationship. Not surprisingly it has expanded to include the Alabama game and the rivalry in general. We usually focus on the difficulty that Alabama has in J-H. I like bringing up the far worse nightmare AU faces when heading to BDS. This is mentioned far less but IMO, deserves to be be mentioned more.

For me at least, it lightens the mood and brings some balance into the conversation.

Since we are doing an Auburn review of past teams can we also just get it out there that their 2010 NC team was nothing more than a crazed but uber talented QB they outbid MSU for and one unblockable DL. And remember they needed a last second FG to beat a PAC 12 team.

Poor Gene, he won and probably didn't understand why and he lost and didn't understand why.

FTR, however, I really like CGC as a person and TV guy. He's back to doing what he probably never should have left doing: being a DC.
